Tma & Tme, what are they?
This rentry will go over the meanings, who it affects and how/why, who can be this and that, and the significance of trans-misogyny in the real world.
It is expected that people who read this rentry already have the knowledge of what makes one trans.
This is written by a Blasian Intersex system.
“What is TMA?” Tma means Trans-Misogyny affected
. This could be AMAB, or intersex. Anything that is not AFAB. Just being AMAB or intersex does not mean you are automatically TMA however. TMA is being trans at the same time. It is something that many trans women
/transfems
go through every single day, and is a genuinely serious issue in the trans community.
“Okay, so what is TME?” Tme is Trans-misogyny exempt
. Meaning, you will never face trans-misogyny. If AFAB, yes, you can still face misogyny and transphobia but it is absolutely not trans-misogyny
. Not experiencing trans misogyny
and being trans & AFAB does NOT invalidate your experience as a trans person. You do not have to be affected by it to be valid. Please do not think you do.
“Who are transfems
, then?” Transfems
are AMAB or intersex people who are transitioning to a feminine gender, a feminine-feeling gender, or a feminine aligned gender. NO, transfem does NOT = transwoman
. Yes, you can be transfem
and also be a trans woman
, as being a woman is a feminine-aligned gender. Yes, trans woman = transfem
. However, a lot of transwomen
do not take the transfem
label. Transfem
does not always = trans woman
. The same can be applied to transmascs
.
“Why can’t people who are AFAB be transfem
? Or the other way around?” It's simple, really.. Yes, you can be trans, as an AFAB person, and still be in a feminine gender, or feminine-aligned gender. Yes, by technicality you would be trans and feminine, however that label is NOT for you. That label is for people who are affected by trans-misogyny
, which is a huge part of the transfem/transwoman experience
. Again, the same goes for AMAB and transmascs
.
“Okay, how does it affect people?” It, essentially, boils down to transphobia
. Yes, it is under that umbrella. Trans-Misogyny = Transphobia, but not all transphobia = trans misogyny
. There is a difference. You see, people who are affected by trans misogyny
are going to go through it, so long as they are trans… and feminine. The trans misogyny
experience that we face is different depending on the intersex person, or AMAB person. It does not make us less valid.
“How come intersex people can be both but we are restricted to one or another?” Because of Intersexism
. Intersexism
is another part of the intersex experience, and while not talked about at all, it is still a real issue. Because our genitals do not match this or that to be considered AFAB or AMAB, we are left out of everything. To put it in simple terms, we are not considered anything. If we are recognized, usually people think we are all “Genderfluid,” which we are not. Yes, you can be intersex and genderfluid. But, gender and sex are not the same things. Not all of us are genderfluid. We are either considered everything, or nothing. To break down intersexism, as we don't necessarily fit into AMAB or AFAB, we are considered to be able to be transfem/masc
.
