I love Tord alot, like a genuinely insane amount. Never did I think that a fictional character would impact my mental state in such a way. Hes literally a character that has all of the traits I'm attracted too, personality wise, and appearance wise. I remember when I first ran into Tord at the whopping age of 5 in 2015, through the Eddisode: Ruined, I immediately fell in love. This isn't me overexaggerating either. I would take my Lightning Mcqueen toy car and my Draculara doll out and play with them, pretending as if Tord was Mcqueen and as if I was Draculara. I was an interesting child. Despite all this, my love for Tord didn't majorly pick up until recently, honestly due to the break that happened after The End pt.1 & 2 were released—It naturally led 6 year old me to lose interest in the show for a little while as I wasn't that into fandom spaces. (thank god.)
I recently picked back up the interest in Eddsworld (bigtime, I'd have small little hyperfixations on it for a week or 2 about twice a year) though, dragging my girlfriend down with me of course. I have been selfshipping for quite a few years, most of it unknowingly but I knew the general concept by the time I was 13. When I started getting back into the show, I just fell in love all over again. Kind of ridiculously in love. GOD I'M A FUCKING LOSER. Anyway, this along with the rise in popularity with things related to self/yumeshipping led me to start taking my attraction to him a little bit more serious than my attraction to anyone else. I had originally just shipped him with my OC/persona named Cipher, the OC I've shoved into every universe since 2019. Though that didn't exactly feel correct. My OC is very somber and a lot less interested in anything related to romance, so I simply switched it to where they'd admire him and his work, cause it made more sense. Then proceed to make myself a completely new persona, which is who all the art below has in it. (I even wrote hyr lore!! Take a...👀look here!!)
I get asked occasionally as to why I yumeship. I used to do it for funs and hahas, and I partially still do cause its a nice little hobby that people can do to just give theirselves joy. But now I personally use it more as a coping mechanism for very intense trauma—so I don't jump back to the people to hurt me. By focusing almost all my romantic attention towards a fictional character, I've realized I'm not as tempted to run back to my traumatizers, which was a thought I'd have on a daily basis. While using it as a coping mechansim isn't perfect for everyone, nor is it guaranteed to help. I'd say if you're struggling with trauma, I'd give it a shot !!
