Trickstyr's Dragon Verse
Background Information
Growth and Aging
All dragons regardless of species will grow quickly during the first 10-15 years of life. This allows the younglings to quickly outgrow potential predators and increase their likelihood of survival. This, however, means young dragons need a lot of food to prevent stunted growth. After this time period, their growth slows down incredibly and their continue growth stays at a crawl for the rest of of their lives.
The average lifespan of dragons as a whole ranges from around 700-800 years. Some species can reach 1,000-1,100+ but it is rare.
Age Bracket
Note these ages are an average and may differ between species
- Newborn/Hatchling 0-1 years
- Toddler 2-5 years
- Youngling 6-15 years
- Adolescent 16-40 years
- Adult 41-100 years
- Mature 101-400 years
- Middle aged 401-700 years
- Senior 701-900
- Elderly 901+
Reproduction
Dragons are typically either Oviparous, meaning a creature that lays eggs, or Viviparous, meaning a creature who gives live birth, with few exceptions. Dragons require a male and female to reproduce. There are rare, occasional species that may be Ovoviviparous, meaning creature who's eggs remain inside the mother until they hatch, but this is extremely uncommon.
- Most Oviparous species lay 2-4 eggs per clutch, and the eggs typically require up to 3-6 months before they hatch.
- Most Viviparous species give birth to 1-3 pups per litter, with the gestation period varying between 9-16 months.
Intelligence
The technological advancements of dragons vary from species to species. Some dragons are relatively simple while others mirror humans in their civilization.
On the high end of the scale there is Futen Karyuu, considered the most advanced dragons. They have an in depth written history, rich culture and massive kingdoms carved into the very stone of mountains. They are also one of the few dragon species to comfortably shift between dragon and human form to suit their needs.
Conversely, on the opposite end of the scale is the Ís Köttur, one of the most primitive dragon species. Lacking any written language and minimal tool use, their history is strictly spoken word and they are completely unaware of the ability to take a more useful human form.
All other dragon species lie somewhere in between these two. Most of which lean closer towards the Fūten Karyuu.
Signs of being higher on the scale:
- Use of food preservation (salt, fermentation, freezing, etc)
- Food cultivation (farming, keeping livestock)
- Written language (bonus for keeping history records)
- Highly social behavior including living near members of the species that are not family or even other species of dragon entirely (Or humans)
- Altruistic behavior (caring for elderly or injured members of the species)
- Intricate homes that go beyond a simple cave
- Creating art
Signs of being lower on the scale
- Solitary behavior
- Lack of or inability to craft or use tools
- lack of knowledge towards taking a visage (humanoid form)
- Unprovoked aggression towards other dragon species or their own species
Note: Individual dragons can be higher or lower, this is simply the average intelligence for a species as a whole.
Classifications
Dragons are part of the Draconis family, below explains each genus then further down the different species.
Dragon Taxonomy is as follows with the current known species:

Genus
Drake

Drakes are terrestrial, wingless dragons
- Bodies are mostly scaled, can have feathered or furred accents
- Can be either quadrupedal or bipedal
- Typically Oviparous but some species are Viviparous
Aquacerta

Aquacerta are aquatic, wingless dragons
- Bodies are usually scaled or have smooth skin, may sometimes have furred accents
- Are always quadrupedal
- Typically Oviparous but some species are Viviparous
Serpensa

Serpensa are flying, snake-like dragons
- Bodies are usually scaled or feathered. Can have furred accents
- Limbs are optional as well as wings are optional
- Typically Oviparous but some species are Viviparous
Mollcerta

Mollcerta are mammal-like dragons
- Bodies are usually covered in fur, may have scaled accents
- Are always quadrupedal, always have wings
- Exclusively Viviparous
Caecerta

Caecerta are reptile-like dragons
- Bodies are mostly scaled, can have feathered or furred accents
- Can be either quadrupedal or bipedal, always have wings
- Exclusively Oviparous
Nulvolaris

Nulvolaris are wyvern dragons
- Bodies are mostly scaled, can have feathered accents
- Front limbs are wings, making them typically quadrupedal
- Exclusively Oviparous
Serpenhumus

Serpenhumus are lindwyrm dragons

Elements
Important!
Genus and Element have no relation to each other. For example, aquatic dragons are not inherently water type dragons!
Fire
- High temperature bodies
- Live in arid or tropical climates
- Fireproof bodies
- Controls/Generates fire, typically a breath ability
- Water can prevent their use of their fire breath and lower their body temperature
- Suffer in cold climates, at risk of hypothermia
Water
- Average body temperature
- Live in temperate or tropical climates
- Can breathe underwater
- Controls/Generates water, typically a breath ability
- Fire can easily burn/dry out water dragons and prevent use of their water breath and raise their body temperature
- Suffer in dry climates, at risk of respiratory illnesses
Ice
- Low temperature bodies
- Live in frozen or alpine climates
- Immune to freezing temperatures
- Controls ice, typically a breath ability
- Fire can easily burn/dry out ice dragons and prevent use of their water breath and raise their body temperature
- Suffer in hot climates, at risk of hyperthermia
Wind
- Low temperature bodies
- Live in alpine climates
- Thin bones that are very fragile
- Suffer in hot climates, at risk of hyperthermia
Electric
- High temperature bodies
- Live in temperate climates
- Control/Generate electricity
- Suffer in cold climates, at risk of hypothermia
Poison
- Average temperature bodies
- Live in temperate or tropical climates
- Can have a venomous bite/barbs or poisonous skin (May rarely have acidic saliva)
- Suffer in cold climates, at risk of hypothermia

Species
Attakage
Draconis Intuscalidum
Lineage Caecerta
Element Fire
Environment Jungles and Rain forests
Diet Mesocarnivore
Lifespan 900 years
Reproduction Oviparous
Blood Color Red
Average Size Length= 25', Wingspan= 45', Shoulder Height= 7'
Features Raptor-like dragon with gray and black smooth scales, thick leathery wings and a bright underbelly resembling a fire belly newt's. Their tails are tipped in fan shaped feathers and often have feathers trailing down their backs
Note The underbelly is translucent skin, which glows, denoting the dragon's health. A bright glow is healthy, a dull glow is sleeping or unhealthy. No glow at all means the heart has stopped.
