(Future Fragments) The Final Moving of the Release Date

Alright, so here we are, with what will objectively be the last changing of the release date.

We tried our best to get this out by August, but it's simply taking longer than we expected to get everything done.

That said, we want to make sure you can, for sure, 100%, objectively, hold us to a release date.

So what we've decided on is that while we're still trying to get the game out as soon as possible, at the absolute latest, we will SUBMIT the game's build for final release, to STEAM, on December 31st, 2021.

Steam takes around 1-2 weeks to confirm a game is within their regulations, checking through the code and art and audio, and all that, so there's no way for us to give a definitive date as a result of that.

BUT, this means that with the game SUBMITTED to Steam to check over by Dec. 31st at the latest, provided Steam has no issues with the build, the game will be out within 1-2 weeks of that submission date.

If you want to hear more about where we're at development-wise, and why we're doing this, continue on downwards; if you'd like to discuss it on the Discord too of course, you're free to at https://discord.gg/puXrfSm.

Now I know a lot of you may say "well wait, what if the game's incomplete at launch?"

We really don't think it will be; we're giving ourselves this much breathing room because we don't want to commit to say, September or October and then things again take longer, etc.

However, we also want to get it out no matter what this year (effectively), so we're committed to that date, complete or not.

And it's for that reason that we've pared down the list of things we will absolutely have in at launch further, to make sure that the game, functionally, gets out at a completely playable state when we submit it to Steam.

You can see that list of things we have left to do here; https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1S8ErciX34sxY5gc_avunEgWypftNvgk16W3uM_41LqA/edit?usp=sharing
  • Anything that is in the first tab at the bottom, "Mandatory", will be in the game at release, period, even if we have to kill ourselves to do it and grind out overtime.
  • Anything in the second tab, under "Post-Release", are things we plan to get in after the game has released as a worst-case scenario; best case, we get some of them in at release instead.
  • And finally, anything in the "Optional" tag, also in the second tab, are things that we're debating putting in, or that might instead go to Faye's game instead. We'd ideally like to get all of them in, but these are things that might be large time sinks and cause us to take even longer before we can begin work on Faye's game.

As you can see with the list though, while there are a lot of tasks, the majority of them are only things we rate "medium" to "low" to "very low" in time-frame; however, because there's a lot, they add up fast.

From this point on as well, you can expect weekly progress report posts to be posted to the Patreon as well as to Twitter, all forums we post on, and Discord, which again the link to Discord is https://discord.gg/puXrfSm.

So, this WILL be the final delay post, period, so you can mark your calendars; at the very latest, the game will be on Steam within 1-2 weeks of December 31st, 2021.

Again, ideally, we'll have it out long before then, but that is the absolute latest it'll be out, again, provided Steam doesn't give us any issues themselves.

We're committed to submitting it then no matter what state it's in, because honestly, we really need to get this game out; we've got so many other games we want to make and we're so close to the finish line with Future Fragments, but most importantly, we want to get it out because all of you have been waiting WAY too long for this!

We're not going to put it out half-assed though; that doesn't mean more delays, that just means we're also committed to busting ass even harder than before to ensure it gets out completed by then.

As always, we can't thank you all enough that've stuck with and continue to stick with the game, whether you're a backer or not, because while we know it's been a long, long journey, this is FINALLY going to be the marked end of it, no matter what, hell or high water.

If you've got any questions, feel free to ask here or on Discord. Thank you all again so much, and we're going to do our best to make the final game worth the 6 years it's been in development (exactly 7 by the time it comes out).
