Stay Dead: Trick or Threat

Sienna's suggestion to go home instead of the high school Candy Castle trick-or-treat sounds good. You'd love to actually spend time with Jason without it seeming weird. You can barely believe that he might want to do the same.

But you don't want to seem too eager.

"We should at least get some candy for JoJo, right?"

The three of you get into the car and put on your seatbelts.

Jason agrees. "She'll definitely want to know who won castle king and queen."

"Let's tell her that you two are king and queen of the castle. You two look great together."

You try to keep from either blushing or giving your sister the death stare. Jason just smiles. Sienna continues.

"I think when we get there the candy will be gone and the whole thing will be dead. Jason, promise me that you will come in for a brownie when you take us home."

You smile sheepishly at Jason and he zips down the road toward the high school. He barely parks before Sienna jumps out and speed walks inside. That gives you a chance to speak to him alone.

"It was really cool of you to bring us tonight even though JoJo didn't come."

"Um," he begins, and throws you a strangely serious look. "Yeah. Well, I--"

"Let's go."

You look up and see Sienna running back to the car. The sight of her scares you for a moment. The two of you ask her what is going on.

"It's over," she says. "I don't know how I knew it, I just knew it. There's no one in there."

Jason checks his watch. "It's only been a half hour."

You look around and notice no activity, no coming and going, no people other than the three of you.
