About

About the theme

Tux Theme is a theme by @kenochoric, and is meant to emulate the Tumblr default theme. However, it comes with the bonus of wayyyyyyyyy more customization, as well as some helpful scripts like a back to top button, a spoon meter, and a music player, all built in (and removable, of course.)

The theme is meant to be flexible, and is therefore very, very customizable. However, with this comes the fact that it's also going to take some time to fully finish. You will also need to know some HTML and CSS to use it easily. If not, tutorials are highly recommended.

This really is not the most user-friendly theme ever made. It's messy, the options might be confusing.... I'm a bit new to this, lmao.

This is the very first theme I've ever partly-created. In the future I hope to make more.

Help

There's some real basic HTML stuff you've gotta know to use this theme. With a million customization options comes having to learn how to actually use them.

Questions
  1. Will you help me more with this theme?: I'll try, but I can't hold you all the way through it.
  2. Can I remove the credit(s)?: No. Don't steal code from people.
  3. What was the basis of this theme?: It started out as a modification of the default Tumblr theme. I just kept building onto it until it became its own variant.
  4. Did you make this theme yourself?: Besides it being based off of the default theme, yes. I did however use some outside codes from various theme creators (who explicitly let you do so). Credit is given to them in the code of the theme, at the top.
  5. Can I edit the theme?: To your heart's content.

Customization Guide

The Background

This refers to the background of the entire blog. There's....

  1. Background image.
  2. Background color.
  3. Background size.
  4. Background position.
  5. Background repeat.

For the background image, it's self explanatory. Upload an image.

For the size, you can do contain (goes as big as it normally would and then stops), cover (makes it fit the entire screen no matter what), or auto (pretty much the same as cover).

For position, you can do top, bottom, left, or right. You can also do something like top right, bottom left, etc.

For background repeat, type no-repeat if you don't want it to repeat, type repeat if you want it to repeat in every direction, type repeat-x if you only want it to repeat horizontally, and repeat-y if you only want it to repeat vertically.

The Header

This refers to the header that's at the top of the blog. There's....

  1. Header image.
  2. Header position.
  3. Header repeat.
  4. Header size.

For header image, you just upload an image and it appears.

For position, you can do top, bottom, left, or right. As well as top right, bottom left, etc.

For repeat, type no-repeat if you don't want it to repeat, type repeat if you want it to repeat in every direction, type repeat-x if you only want it to repeat horizontally, and repeat-y if you only want it to repeat vertically.

For size, you can make your header be contain, cover, or you can put it at a specific percentage, such as 30%.

The Title + Description

This is for the top title and description. You've got:

  1. The fonts.
  2. The color.
  3. The weight.

For fonts, if you know a font, you can likely use it. Make sure you look up the name. For instance, "comic sans" on its own might not work, so you could try comic sans MS. Good to check.

For color, you use a hex code. This is so you can support transparency.

For weight, you can do light, lighter, normal, bolder, bold.

The Post Containers

This is for the post part of your blog. It includes:

  1. The colors.
  2. The layout.
  3. The asks.
  4. The border.

With color, you use hex codes. You can use transparency if you know how.

With the layout, you can do minimal (smaller) or wide (wider). You likely want to make the navigation layout option the same setting so they match.

With asks, you can have a custom background color and border. Definitely change the background color if you use white text, or it'll just be white and you won't see anything.

With the border, you use the standard CSS style of typing in a border, such as 7px solid black. You can also put a ; and then specify more options for a specific border side. Example: 7px solid black;border-bottom: 0px

The Navigation Bar

This is the little box of links above the posts. It includes:

  1. The colors.
  2. The width.
  3. The links.
  4. The border.
  5. The image.

With the colors, it's the same as the others.

With the layout, if your post layout is "minimal" the default should be 502px. If it's wide, then 702px. I made this a text option because if you use borders, the two may not line up perfectly (with the nav bar being a tiny bit wider) and I need the width for this thing to be a little less.

With the links, you can add as many as you want by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking "add page." If you want an external link, select that in the little dropdown.

With the border, you use the standard CSS style of typing in a border, such as 7px solid black. You can also put a ; and then specify more options for a specific border side. Example: 7px solid black;border-bottom: 0px

For nav image, you can put an image into the navigation bar. If you want. It'll look pretty weird in most cases, but hey, the option is there. You can use the nav image size to set contain, cover, etc....

Misc

Oh boy. There's a lot of little things to go over here. I'll cover:

  1. Link on hover.
  2. Spoons.
  3. Music player.
  4. Top container.
  5. Blog username.
  6. The avatar image.

Link on hover: This is a color you can enter in (hex code) for when you hover over any link on the page. It'll turn whatever color you set.

Spoons: This is meant to represent spoon theory. Maximum spoons is how many spoons shown, full spoons is how many are filled in. Type in nothing and they'll disappear.

Music player: It won't show up until you put something in both the title and URL boxes. You need a hotlink for the URL, and please be accurate with the title to credit the song artist.

Top container: Don't recommend messing with this unless you're comfy with CSS. This'll basically give you a background, border, etc. around the title, description, and spoons. You can choose the width, the border, and the background. A fun thing I recommend is linking together the nav bar and the top container by making the background color and border the same, removing the top/bottom borders on them, and using negative margins to put them together. See what I mean about being comfortable with CSS?

Blog username: Type in whatever the username of the blog you're currently putting the theme in. This'll make it so you can use the little gear icon to edit your blog.

The avatar image: You can have a completely transparent border (AKA no border) if you just put transparent in the avatar border box. The border radius box will round out your icon. Set it to 100% if you want a circle.
