[17:56] Maria sighs once again. Her face and demeanor tired. Nothing was found from her training once again. Nothing but a pile of white clothes buried against the dirt. A little pathetic thing, who couldn't even take a round against her own brother or his girlfriend.

She was a mercenary. A sharpshooter. She was as skilled with the rifle as any master markswoman. And yet she couldn't land her shots, she couldn't take the time to be patient, she couldn't find her voice amidst it all.

As she gestured her brother, the sadness lurks in her eye. The very same weakness that found her unable to protect Majora or Levius. Unable to belong, no matter how hard she tried.

A pathetic thing, she was.

Was it because she had no voice? No way of screaming or letting the world know her pain?

"..."

"AAGGGGGGH!"

She kicks over a nearby bookshelf. She begins to shoot it into oblivion, rapid firing her revolver before smalling her rifle down onto the bookshelf. She huffs, tossing her rifle away, and taking a deep breathe.

"..."

She looks at her brother. Not even the shadows of her heart can aid her anymore.

She was still weak.

Even despite drawing on that pain.

She was still weak.

"..."

She takes a book from the bookshelf, tossing it over to her brother. One that reads. 'Occult Magic. The Dangers of Shadows.' A informational guide on darker magics. Nothing akin to a tome that would give the actual magic. Merely an informational guide. A study on what it took to be able to harness such things.

Maria looks at her brother. Her gaze was fervent. Evident.

This was what she wanted.

Power.

She felt it seeping into her bones. A purpose, a will to unlock it. All she had to do was go deeper into her darkness.

Anything, so that she couldn't feel that pain again.

...But was this the right option?

"..." She stares.

Maybe she wanted her brother to say something. To pull her out before she delved too deep.

Making the same mistakes as Lavenza.

"..."

[18:37] Hoshi says, "Huh, the door is unlocked."
[18:47] It was.. heart-rending to see. To see the fun-loving outlaw in despair to this extent. Majora had known well how much she wanted to protect others. How great she was with her guns and how intelligent the little goober had been.

But the rage that he saw now.. he wondered if it had been building up rather than something that was from simply today's experiences. Before his break? Majora would've likely tried to stop the blonde from completing her vandalism and destruction of things in their family home.

But now? He watches. Letting Maria get everything out. That wasn't something that he should get in the way of at the very least. Poor bookshelf though..

Lavender's Moon, however.. as it's thrown away- gravitational forces pull it into Majora's grasp to stop it from incurring any damage. It's set on the couch as the book is thrown at him as well.

It's studied momentarily, the title and what it means. The Malibu squinting at it as he incurs his sister's meaning behind this, shaking his head.

"I don't think Lev or Lav would appreciate that, Maria."

He speaks firstly, trying to grab her attention with something that'd hit close to home as he motions to the rifle. He stands afterwards, moving over to his sister and whether she wanted it or not- wraps his arms around her tightly.

"This isn't the path that you should go, hun. I understand that you're angry. That you want to get stronger and be able to protect us.. yourself, even. Among other things.

But is that worth potentially ruining your mental state? Potentially losing yourself just because you wanted to be strong?"

Whether she fights his hold or not, Majora doesn't really seem to care unless she physically attacks him. If not, he'll keep the Malibu held tightly within his grasp.

"This is not the way. You'll end up with your mind fucked. A shell of yourself that likely won't even hold to your convictions any longer. The darker path may seem good at first, but it always comes back to bite you in the ass and ruin everything you hold dear.

We know that firsthand, don't we?"

His voice soft, even if his words necessarily weren't. His gaze momentarily shifting to Hoshi as she enters the house. Goober didn't remember that it was HER that broke down the door. Tsk tsk.

A wave if given to his partner, but nothing more at the moment.
(Majora Malibu)

[18:59] ["It's already ruined."]

Her mind echoes. Silence leaving the woman's lips. They could never understand what it was like, could they? To be on the other side, always watching...always waiting.

Unable to fit in.

A world dominated by strength, a world dominated by ego, and she could not even take down her own brother. She could not protect them, even if she tried.

How would they know? Of the pain her heart? Of being unable to speak or express herself outward to others? How could they possibly know what it was like?

To be on the other side?

Why couldn't she believe her lie?

She picks up her rifle, dusting off her weapon. She looks into it's sheen, a reminder of herself. Her very purpose.

Yet she wasn't strong enough.

Her brother wouldn't know. For she always wore a facade. A lie. It was inevitable it would break in two.

It was all a lie.

She continues to look at her brother, expressions furrow, pondering his words. It was almost as if she didn't care anymore. She wanted to be strong, to be powerful. To stop being so weak and frail.

It did not matter how she skilled she was. It did not matter who she was. It all meant nothing, in this world of strength.

Absolutely nothing.

Her eyes told of her sorrow.

That girl was right.

She was just like her.

Every single word that came from her mouth that she tried to deny.

It was all true.

She felt such a connection to the dark. To the pain and sorrow. Ever since her lights were lost, did she feel the shadows continue to creep. Fueled by her loneliness and sorrow. Her tendency to never fit in.

It felt so real. So natural to her. To take up such an art and use it as her own. Use her sorrow as a chance for strength.

Who was her brother to not let her do this?

"..."

But no, she brought him here for a reason. Someone to grab her out of the hole she was digging herself, to stray her away from this path.

It was frightening, how the darkness clung to her. How she fit so well in the shadows, away from the world, watching it all go by as she sat alone.

Unable to speak, unable to express.

Unable to make them proud.

It ran in her blood, it would seem. That darkness.

A scary thought...

"..." Maria turns to her brother, reacting to the hug with a blank demeanor. Her mental state was already at its lowest.

How much lower can she go?

"..."

She sighs, as her brother hugs her. She didn't want to let go, nor could she. Yet for some reason the embrace didn't help, it didn't stop her thoughts from racing, or her heart from beating, or the sorrow and jealousy in her heart.

It didn't make her any more stronger.

Maria let's go eventually, picking up her rifle and placing it on her back once again. If she didn't want to turn to the dark, what other way was there?

Maria gazes at her palm, trickles of ebon flicking from her digits. It marks the ground, the very symbol of her pain and loneliness, etched in magics. A shadow of her former self.

She didn't want to be that anymore.

If only she could find her voice.

If only she could get away from her shadow, of her sorrow.

It was an impossible feat, was it not?

"..."

She simply sits on the couch next to Majora. Gazing at her ebon palm. The magics that felt so natural to her.

Yet she couldn't bear to have any longer.

"..."

[19:16]
Hoshi walks into the house, casually wondering why the door was unlocked, this was unnusual for the Malibu househol- Oh wait... She blew it off its hinges to go get Majora his keys, right.

The fox casually waves back to Majora, before dodging a random rifle thrown in her way, watching as its stopped from hitting the ground by gravity magic... What the hell did she walk into?

"... If this was because of the door, I'm very sorry about blowing it up."

Seems like she got things mixed up, the scenery of vandalism, and a worried Majora comforting his sister however, eventually make her catch on.

Something isn't right. But should she even be interrupting? Seems like its a personal brother and sister moment...

"Is it a bad time Majora? I can come back later."

A simple question is asked, the kitsune not wanting to pry too much. Her eyes do show a hint of concern, although her body expression would suggest she's quite relaxed right now.

(Hoshi)

[19:40] Could they understand?

Could any of you, truly understand?

What it was like to be lost in those shadows. To be frail and weak, to find the world passing you by as you lay alone. With naught but that gentle embrace to keep you.

It was comforting. Why would you leave?

Why would you ever want to leave?

Maria was on the other side, never able to fit in, never able to be nothing but a lie. It was her shadow that was her true self, was it not? She was not like you. Or anyone, for that matter.

A pathetic little thing.

No one would understand. To try so hard. To try, and try, and try, only to be met with failure. No matter how much you tried, it meant nothing. For someone was always better than you. Someone was always smarter, or faster, or simply stronger.

Why bother?

These thoughts echo upon her mind. Nothing can be told from her except her expressions. Of the sorrow in her heart leaking from her eyes. Of that ebon palm, trickling her pain

What did she deserve?

Nothing.

She was a failure.

Who was she? But that little girl who had basked too much in her stories at night? Who was only brave enough to enter the outside world to play make believe. To believe in her little lie, that she was just like those heroes of eld.

Of course she wasn't.

She was still that little girl.

She was nothing like them.

Eventually, however.

"..."

She sighs. She sits in silence, in her brother's embrace. Maybe this was the wrong path, she thought to herself. Maybe this wasn't the way. What would Levius think? Or Lavenza?

...What would she think?

"..."

Maria rises without a word. She simply goes to the corner. She strums her mother's guitar, gently pricking at it's digits as her thoughts wandered.

["You guys can't understand what it's like to be me. To be weak. To be pathetic. To be...this."]

["No one does."]

She pricks the strings. How long had it been? Since her mother played for them? Since she saw joy in her eyes too? How long had it been?

Too long to remember.

She clings to this ancient guitar. Who knew how old it was. So old, she doubt her mother even gave it the time of day. But she remembered, at least. The songs she'd play. That she'd sing sometimes, when in the shadows. When no one else was around but just her, when perhaps a glass of wine or two had made her joyful enough to give it a strum.

It had been too long.

"..."

She picks up the guitar, taking a seat beside Majora. She strums it, wallowing to herself. The notes to a gentle song she had seen her mother play time and time again. She was rusty, but...

She gives it a whirl, once again.

How long had it been since she played herself? Since she was a girl, maybe?

"..."

"...Duh, duh, duh, duh...duh, duh, duhduhduh, duh...-"

"Hmhmhm...hmm..hm..hm..hm..hmhm..."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGwFi51IV5c&ab_channel=BlueOne

She scats alongside her strumming. A sorrowful, tender song. She didn't know who wrote it, or where it was from. Merely that it echoed in her heart.

She messes up her strums every now and then, of course. She was rusty. Yet she tried. To play a little. Express herself in one of the only ways she could.

Maybe then, remembering idle memories, could she forget about her darkness.

Her sorrow.
(Maria Malibu)

[20:48] So she strums.

To an audience of silence.

"..."

Maybe her brother had fallen asleep. Maybe he was tired too. Again, she felt alone. Even if it wasn't anyone's fault.

"Mm."

She nods. Picking herself up from the couch. She carries her guitar nonetheless. A soft smile to Hoshi, before the woman takes her leave.

[21:08] One shot, then another, then three.

It all went down like water.

Adrift in the waves.

"..."

Not even Majora cared, did he? Nor Hoshi or anyone for that matter.

She was truly, utterly alone.

What comfort could she cling too now? Realizing her life was a lie?

What lie can she hold to her heart?

"..."

She was carrying her mother's guitar. Alone, in this silent bar. With naught but herself to keep her company.

Truly, utterly alone.

In the shadows.

She strums it again. She was no hero. No wanderer.

Just a drunkard, really.

Doesn't matter how precise a shot she was. Not if she didn't have the strength to move it.

It didn't matter.

All that mattered now?

Was that bottle.

"..."

A hearty swig, as the shadows creep onto her once again.

She could hear something in the distance. As if it were an echo. A hand on her shoulder. A soft gesture. Telling her it would all be okay?

It wasn't real. Drunken delusions.

That's all it was, that hand on her shoulder. Painted black nails, she saw. A gentle, dark embrace.

Did it want her to run away? Or embrace the sorrow?

She did not know.

gulp

Another one down the hatch.

Not that it mattered anymore, she lost count a while ago.
