Balance Adjustments Announcement - By Cygames / Umamusume: Pretty Derby

Balance adjustments are now available. Despite being only halfway through the Global version, these changes align with the Japan version's 1st anniversary. Updates include increased Career Mode rewards, improved Support Card interactions, fewer negative effects, new race mechanics like Spot Struggle and Dueling, parameter tweaks for specific characters, changes to skills, updated racetracks, and new secret events like Mayano's secret event "The Fruits of My Labor".

Umamusume Global is becoming quite interesting. We received the 1st anniversary updates sooner than expected, drastically changing the meta and creating a new landscape rather than just copying Japan's version. Other Umas can now shine thanks to these early updates.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Umamusume?
    • Umamusume is a franchise that follows the lives and careers of horse girls based on real racehorses. The series includes a mobile game, anime, manga, music, and live performances.

Umamusume. They are born to run. They inherit otherworldly names, and are inspirited by dreams most dramatic and wonderful. Now, they run ever forward. That, is their destiny. No one knows how the races that lie in their futures will end. Even so, they continue to run, aiming only toward the goal in front of them.

  • On which platforms is the game available?
  • What genre best describes the game?
    • The game is a deck building and character raising simulation game with roguelike elements, with storytelling presented through a semi-animated visual novel format.
  • Do I need to watch the anime to understand the game's story? Will one spoil the other?
    • No, the game takes place in a different continuity from the anime, so watching the anime is not required and will not spoil the game's story.
  • Which banner should I pull first?
    • You should pull for support card banners. It is significantly more important to acquire meta defining support cards (like Kitasan Black or Super Creek) before worrying about specific 3 star Umas.
  • Which Uma should I get from the 3 star selector?
    • Ensure you use your random 3-star Uma ticket before using the selector to avoid duplicates.
    • Get Oguri Cap because she's a good all-rounder, adaptable to all terrain types, adaptable to all race distances, and can be used as a parent.
    • If you already have Oguri Cap, pick Maruzensky or Taiki Shuttle.
    • Or just get your favorite Uma instead of the meta recommendations.
  • How do I transfer/sync my game data to my phone or other devices?
    • Create a Link Password on your current game before linking a new device.
    • Select Data Link on the menu screen, when prompted, tap Data Link again, tap Set next to "Create Password," and follow the instructions.
    • To link your game data on the new device, on the title screen, tap the menu icon at the bottom right, select Data Link, tap Data Link, and follow the prompts to complete the linking process.
  • I just pulled a card, but why can't I play as that character?
    • That's just a support card, not an Uma/Trainee that you can train with. Read this guide for more info.
  • I can't add my recently pulled Uma/Trainee to my 'Team Trials' team.
    • You haven't completed a career for that Uma. Read this guide for more info.
  • "How do I make the game fullscreen while in races?" / How do I make the game's race camera into landscape mode like I saw in the videos?
    • Select the "landscape" option when you're about to start a race. Alternatively, go to settings, select the "race" tab, then choose "landscape."
    • "Landscape" more accurately reflects live horse racing, while "portrait" offers more dynamic shots.
  • My Uma is strong enough, but she often finishes last in certain races.
    • There are two types of tracks (Turf and Dirt) and four types of distances (Sprint, Mile, Medium, Long). Each Uma has strengths and weaknesses relative to these types. Be sure to check if she is good for the specific race before entering.
  • Where's the multiplayer that you can make or join a room for?
    • In the home screen, select "Races" at the bottom tab, then select "Room Match"
    • You can host a race with customizable settings, join in other races, or spectate a race by entering a Room ID.
    • You can also save race replays by up to 5.
  • How do I complete a mission?
    • Check out GameTora’s mission guides. They stay updated with all the current missions, and you’ll probably find what you need there.
  • What time is the daily reset of the game?
    • On the global version, it is at 3:00 PM (15:00) UTC+0 / 12:00 AM (0:00) JST. You can check the remaining time on the daily missions page, or check here.
  • How do the alternate outfits function?
    • Alternate outfits are considered separate character from the original Uma. They need to be trained separately.
  • How can I easily farm large numbers of fans for my club?
    • Select an Uma that can participate in mile, medium, and long distance races (like Oguri Cap, Daiwa Scarlet, etc.). Then build a deck with support cards that provide a 15% or higher fan bonus. Train your Uma as usual, focusing on important stats, while racing for all G1 races or races with high amount of fans. Optionally, read this guide or watch this YouTube video for more info.
  • What is the difference between Open League and Graded League in Champions Meeting?
    • Open League is restricted to Uma Musume with a rank of B or lower. It yields fewer rewards but is generally easier for newer players.
    • Graded League has no rank restrictions. It offers the best rewards but requires highly optimized, meta-relevant builds to compete effectively.
    • Once you lock in your choice for the round, it cannot be changed.
  • What does a "9-Star Parent" or "9-Star Spark" mean?
    • This refers to the Blue Inheritance Spark (Stats). A "9-Star" Uma has a 3-star Blue Spark herself, and both of her parents also possess 3-star Blue Sparks (3+3+3=9).
    • Using 9-Star parents (and renting one) provides a massive stat boost at the start of training and during inheritance events.
  • Should I use a Level 30 SSR card or a Level 45 SR card?
    • Generally, a Max Limit Break (MLB) SR card (Level 45) is stronger than a 0 Limit Break SSR card (Level 30).
    • SSR cards usually only become superior at 3 or 4 Limit Breaks, with specific exceptions for cards that provide essential Gold Skills (like Super Creek for "Swinging Maestro").
  • How important is Stamina compared to Speed?
    • Speed determines your maximum velocity, but Stamina determines if you can maintain that velocity.
    • If you run out of HP (Stamina) before the end of the race, your speed drops drastically.
    • For long-distance races, meeting the Stamina requirement is more critical than capping Speed. For example, 1200 Speed with insufficient Stamina will lose to 500 Speed with sufficient Stamina on a 3200m track.
  • Should I upgrade my skills to Double Circle (◎)?
    • In most cases, no. The point cost for the second level of a passive or normal skill is usually high compared to the marginal benefit it provides.
    • It is often more efficient to spend those Skill Points on acquiring more skills (White skills) rather than upgrading one to Double Circle, especially for Team Trials scoring.
  • How do I trigger the Crane Game minigame?
    • The Crane Game can trigger when you choose the Recreation.
    • It only appears in Classic Year or Senior Year in any month and can only appear once per year. It is not guaranteed to appear every time you go out during these months.
  • Do Green Skills allow stats to go above the 1200 cap?
    • Yes. Green skills (passive skills that activate based on track conditions like "Turf," "Sunny," or "Non-Standard Distance") apply a multiplier that can push your effective stats beyond the 1200 limit during the race calculation.
  • Why didn't my Uma's Unique Skill activate?
    • Unique Skills have specific conditions (e.g., "be in 1st place," "be in the pack," "overtake someone").
    • If your strategy doesn't match the skill (e.g., using a Front Runner strategy on an Uma whose skill requires being in the back), it will not trigger.
    • Additionally, skills require a Wit check to activate, low Wit may prevent skills from activating.
  • How do I get a 3-Star Blue Spark on my parent Uma?
    • It is based on the final stats of the Uma at the end of the run.
    • You must reach at least 600 in a specific stat (Speed, Stamina, etc.) to have a ~6% chance of rolling a 3-Star spark for that stat.
    • If you reach 1100 or higher, the chance increases to approximately 10%. If the stat is below 600, it is impossible to get a 3-Star spark.
  • Why did my team lose the match in Team Trials but get a higher score?
    • Team Trials scoring is based on individual performance and skill activation, not just winning.
    • A character who finishes 2nd or 3rd but activates multiple Gold Skills and gets a "Good Start" bonus can score higher than a character who wins 1st place but activates zero skills.
    • To maximize score, prioritize activating as many skills as possible (especially Gold skills) rather than just raw speed.
  • What does the Rushed status mean during a race?
    • Rushed is a negative status that can occur randomly during the race.
    • While Rushed, your Uma consumes 1.6x more Stamina and may ignore their assigned strategy (e.g., a Late Surger might move up too early).
    • Higher Wit reduces the probability of becoming Rushed.
  • Can I stack debuff skills in the Champions Meeting race?
    • Yes. Debuff skills (Red skills) stack additively.
    • If you run multiple characters with stamina debuff skills (like Nice Nature), you can drain massive amounts of stamina from opponents, potentially forcing them to slow down before the finish line.
    • Please note that debuff skills will be banned in the Champions Meeting in the future, which will prevent debuff skills from activating.
  • How do I level up my Uma's Unique Skill?
    • To level up the Uma's unique skill, you must reach these Fan count goals by specific dates in Year 3 (Senior Year)
      • Valentine's (Early Feb): Requires 60k Fans.
      • Fan Festival (Early Apr): Requires 70k Fans + Green Bond with the Chairman.
      • Christmas (Late Dec): Requires 120k Fans.
    • Because dirt races give fewer fans on average, dirt characters have lower requirements.
      • Valentine's (Early Feb): Requires 40k Fans.
      • Fan Festival (Early Apr): Requires 60k Fans + Green Bond with the Chairman.
      • Christmas (Late Dec): Requires 80k Fans.
