awareness on the uyghurs and their treatment in china

content warning

the following writing below contain mentions of:

  • rape, assault, abuse, torture
  • the chinese government trying to reenact holocaust ?? what.

not only will i cover the reeducation camps, but in a separate rentry linked here (tba) will be composed of situation chinese citizens themselves are facing and should be spoken up about.
the chinese government can try as they may to cover up how they're literally treating their people like straight up dirt, especially with the uyghurs and other middle eastern ethnic groups, but word spreads easily.

what's happening now?

for a while now, in china there have noteably been reports of large masses of people belonging to the uyghurs (a turkic ethnic group) have been persecuted in xinjiang, who have been detained and forced into 're-education' camps in which they are practically made slaves, involuntarily doing labour, sterilized, deprived of many rights, abused, and so much more. the uyghurs who have escaped from the so-called reeducation camps have reported that people have been raped, assaulted, oppressed, and have been forced to eat pork - which goes against the majority's faith (Islam). despite the fact that i used 'and' in that sentence, that probably isn't all there is to this, but hasn't been spoken about or included here due to my lack of competence when it comes to research, but hopefully this matter comes to end.

re: countering forced labour

as mentioned, the uyghurs are forced into labour. the CCP has been using them to pick cotton in certain regions, extracting resources, or sent to work in chinese manufacturing facilities and in camps under the guise of being 're-education' through coercive tactics. there are many goods that you may unconsciously buy not knowing that they come from china's acts of genocide. there is an extension to help detect and differentiate which products or brands may be tied to this, along with a database showing statistics on international companies and their relations to east turkestan (which is where a majority of the forced labour takes place). alternatively, you can get involved by visiting the linked sites to email or join campaigns regarding the uyghurs and their forced labour, or you can donate via this campaign site's donation page.
