Somehow, you had gotten this far
The wind whistles as it passes you by
You’re on top of an office building, staring at the setting sun as the final rays of daylight color the sky with beautiful hues of red, orange, and pink
Everything has led up to where you were now, to this moment
It was a long time coming but you knew you deserved it
Did you really think you would get a happy ending?
You were always a burden
To your parents, your coworkers
Even her
And what were you since you were born?
A failure. A sinkhole for money, effort, and time. Whenever you tried, you failed. You felt so guilty asking for their help. You knew they resented you for it. They all did.
No wonder they abandoned you. You didn’t deserve them.
From then on that idea only became more reinforced, more true.
You were a liability. To think that anyone truly loved you was delusional at best.
No one called themselves your friend. Most just barely tolerated your existence
Except her
The pain in your chest intensified. She deserved better than you. Better than some loser. She didn’t show it, but you knew she wanted to leave, she just didn’t want to hurt your feelings. It was that or she somehow loved you. But she needed to move on. You didn’t deserve her, or her love. You didn’t deserve any of it. Why did she love you? You were nothing. And you were sorry. So sorry.
You didn’t want to be a burden anymore. To her, or to anyone. They shouldn’t have to worry about you.
The hole in your chest only got deeper
You had promised yourself you’d do this
They could move on. She could move on.
You could die today and the whole world would continue on tomorrow as if nothing happened. Everyone would just be a little happier.
You step onto he ledge of the roof and look down.
Floor after floor of glass windows reflecting the evening light, eight the lights of hundreds of cars underneath.
It all seemed so small form up here
You were sorry for so many things
The tears were streaming down you face
This was your apology
You jump
The wind howls around you as you fall
You turned once again to the setting sun, both you of now brothers falling from the sky. Everything flashed through your mind. But it ended on her. Her luscious bluish-black hair, her dazzling sapphire eyes. That smile that seemed to make you forget everything for a moment.
You were sorry
You close your eyes, awaiting the end

The wind suddenly died down. You open your eyes to find yourself suspended in the air. Just as suddenly as it had stopped, the wind comes howling back again.
But you aren’t falling. Instead, you rise through the air. Confused, you look around and watch the sun as it slowly rises with you.
You rise until you reach the roof
It feels as though you’ve lost all control over your body as it rests on the edge before backing away slowly.
You were once again on the roof, but this time you weren’t alone.
You turn around to see Kronii. The wind has covered her face with her hair.
Her hand is outstretched. She looks so beautiful.
Another reminder why you didn’t deserve her.
Before you can question what is going on she nearly tackles you in a hug
She was squeezes you tightly, with a little more force she might snap your spine
Your hands hesitate above her frame
Why was she here? Why did she save you? Why couldn’t she have let you finish it?
The thoughts raced through your mind before you notice she’s crying. >You hug her back.
Now look at you. You made her cry. All because of what you did.
You couldn’t even kill yourself right
Kronii sniffles. “The office called today. They said you were missing from your desk since this afternoon.”
She hugs you tighter. “I was already worried enough, so I knew I had to find you right away.”
You were a burden. You had made her so worried. She had to come out all this wa—
She looks up at you sternly
”Stop it. Stop thinking like that.”
You part your lips to answer but she meets them with her own in a kiss
Now it was your turn to cry. The tears come running down your face as you pull back
She’s crying too
Her hand cups your cheek
”Anon, I love you. I don’t care what you think about yourself or who you think you are.”
You embrace for another hug.
”I know it’s been a rough few months. But I don’t hate you, and you’re not a burden. I love you. Always have, always will. I don’t want you throwing your life away.”
A quick squeeze causes your breath to hitch for a moment
”So don’t try anything like that again.”
You laugh. You hadn’t in what felt like ages.
She laughs too as you hold on to each other as she peppers your face with kisses through the tears
She loves you.
And it was your burden to remember that, always.
