Rejecting Modernity... but You Still Really Wanna Play Minecraft

So.. you're an adamant Minecraft player.. and you've just stumbled across the Rejecting Modernity for Microsoft. What now?

Well, if you've been following this guide so far, and you've been paying attention, you'll began to have noticed that, predictably, Microsoft owns Mojang, who owns Minecraft.. which means Microsoft owns Minecraft. Now this is bad on it's own as corporate greed tends to settle in very quickly and very fast.

However, this isn't the real problem.

The problem begins when Microsoft made a change to the Xbox services, implementing a tiny little feature where if you don't verify your age, i.e. give up your ID, i.e. dox yourself, not only will you not be able to talk to others, presuming they lock out accessing servers as well, you will be forced to exclusively play singleplayer!

And what's worse.. is that this is a global rollout, meaning this isn't just a UK problem anymore, this is a worldwide problem. A worldwide problem that needs to be fixed.

So what do you do now if you've been following along with this guide? There are a lot of actions you can do right now, including proceeding to no longer play Minecraft, because you think doing this is a risk to your privacy.. however, to my best ability, here's what I suggest you can do.

Regarding Java Edition Users

If you're a Java Edition user, or a user that owns both Java and Bedrock, I suggest porting your Java saves to Prism Launcher, and start exclusively dabbling in versions below the date where Microsoft bought Mojang. Do not use the newer versions above the post-Microsoft buyout versions anymore, as they contain any telemetry capabilities, and the age restriction system. Make servers in these version too if you really want to play in multiplayer. Take extra precaution with mods during these versions however, as they might contain bypasses and backdoors.

If you still want to go above this version limit, but worry about the age restriction coming to strike you off the map or make playing multiplayer a permanent impossibility, I also suggest no longer using MC vanilla, but installing a mod loader, so that you may use this mod made by a fellow Clippy supporter, Aizistral, in order to disable the age verification limits.

Porting saves and versions to Prism Launcher, will also help the minimize usage of the official MC Launcher, as it too has the ability to send personal data directly to Microsoft as well, which won't help when Minecraft data eventually is scavenged by other companies and the government.

Regarding Bedrock Edition Players

For Bedrock Edition users on PC that DON'T have Java Edition, as well as Console and Mobile users, well you won't have to worry that much, because you can actually play the game now, at least, semi-properly! Though I'd advise not using Vibrant Visuals if you have a weaker PC, or you're experiencing lag. Unluckily however, no matter where you live in the world, the age verification system will permanently lock access to Multiplayer chat for people on PC.

To minimize usage of the official MC Launcher for Bedrock, I suggest using this open-source Bedrock launcher in order to launch Bedrock instead.

For Mobile users, while the game's also fixed for you, I'd actually just rather you pirate this one instead for an older version (again can't tell you how, for law purposes), in order to bypass the age verification system. UPDATE: As a certain Bruhity has told me, not even downgrading or pirating can bypass the system, as you STILL have to sign into Microsoft, and because the Xbox services are the one being limited, it won't matter regardless! The Mobile users will be unfortunately, joining the crowd of people being restricted in Multiplayer.

For Linux users, I suggest following this tutorial here to get Bedrock working on Linux. You, however, will still be affected by the age verification, so watch out for that one.

And for OG Nintendo Switch users, you were probably already doomed to begin with, and will also end up joining the PC, Linux and Mobile users with being restricted from Multiplayer. For Switch 2 users, dawg, you probably have a PC running Bedrock, use that instead!

Regarding People Who Have Money to Buy Minecraft/Regarding People who are Vehement on attempting to starve Microsoft of Sales

For people that have money to buy Minecraft, it's recommended that you do not go buy Minecraft, but instead, something else entirely. For those vehement on attempting to starve Microsoft of sales, stop playing Minecraft immediately, and drop to something else instead.

Assuming the backlash won't do anything, people will attempt to collectively leave Minecraft itself, in which those participating will tell you not to buy the game anymore, to keep all servers as empty as possible, and to stop using the Minecraft launcher for good, in order to starve Microsoft of sales, and while this may harm Mojang's general image, for Microsoft itself, it will teach them not to mess with those with a common goal. We do have to keep in mind however that doing this could be a blowback for both teams, so be extra careful in doing this.

For those people willing to perform this upcoming event, there's a really good video covering open-source Minecraft equivalents by dacctal, who also covered Matrix, a decentralized Discord equivalent, and other such topics, and I think you should check them out.

If you can't be bothered and just want the links and what these open source equivalents are, let me guide you through the four dacctal covered in his video:

There's betasharp, a decomp of Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 that relies on an actual copy of Minecraft Java Edition. Unfortunately however, you will have to give Microsoft money, as you must own an legally purchased copy of Minecraft. This isn't ideal if you're planning to cut off full support on Microsoft, so I wouldn't reccomend it if you don't like giving money to AI slop companies. If you already own a copy of Minecraft however, go ahead!

There's ClassiCube, an open source Minecraft equivalent, with the unique gimmick of being ported throughout older consoles as well, like the Wii, the PS3 and the g'damn PSP, I shit ye not. It's also the closest equivalent to Minecraft you can get without commiting some form of piracy if you're not up to those standards.

There's Luanti, a popular FOSS Minecraft equivalent with it's unique gimmick being that it's entirely made in Lua, the same engine Roblox relies on (technically, Roblox uses Luau.. but since it's a dialect OF Lua, I still count it as such). This also means you can even use the equivalent itself to build an entire other game using it, if you're a very prominent coder.

Finally, there's Cubyz, with it's gimmick being that not only is it not afraid to say it's inspired from Minecraft, but unlike Minecraft, not only does it have it's own dedicated wiki, it also has vanilla modding support out the gate, being one of the many to contain such.

If, however, you don't care about any of those and just wanna head into a popular alternative without having to think that much, I'm just gonna suggest Hytale to you instead, and leave it up to you to decide. It's, at the very least, the closest thing we have to a popular competitor to Minecraft.

Remember, you have the choice, and you have the power to make that choice.
