The Xtreme List

I'm not able to stream regularly through the end of May and I need something to do when I actually can stream, so I'm going to try playing lots of extreme sports games!

For the purpose of this Challenge/Project/Whatever, I'm mostly only interested in games about getting points and completing objectives, not racing games. I'll still play some extreme racing games though, if I want to.

Since I've already played them all on gamecube and xbox, this list will be mostly PS1 & PS2 games, but any old-ish platform is okay as long as I can emulate it. After each game, I'll just select the next one randomly.

By the way, the list is super incomplete and can/will be added to. Feel free to suggest something to add if it looks interesting!

Platform Game Genre Thoughts
PS2 The Simpsons Skateboarding Skateboarding Impossible to turn even with max turn stat (why is there a turn stat) and the herding missions were an insane idea. The final boss is literally beaver bother from DK64...
PS1 Street Sk8er Skateboarding Looks great, gameplay doesn't allow you to be creative like THPS but it's still fun. They did a good job considering tony didn't exist yet. Needs more than just 3 stages
N64 Big Mountain 2000 Skiing/Snowboarding Stats matter a lot, which is weird but when you unlock the new gear and are suddenly going twice as fast it's pretty fun
GBA Razor Freestyle Scooter Scooter Getting all the wheels kind of sucks a lot because you can't tell where there are in space and they have weird hitboxes
PS1 Trick'n Snowboarder Snowboarding Great presentation, really top tier ps1 aesthetic stuff. Gameplay is serviceable but it's kind of short and doesn't ask much of you
PS1 Street Sk8er 2 Skateboarding Improves pretty much everything about the first game, actually nice job by the devs. Kinda miss the bright anime aesthetic tho
PS1 Thrasher Presents: Skate and Destroy Skateboarding The escape from the cops idea is pretty fun and the soundtrack is great but the controls are awful and somehow expert mode just makes them even worse
PS2 Free Running Freerunning Quit when it asked for 50 gold medals to fight the final boss. Sorry Sebastien, I have let you down. Way too fiddly and broken to be fun but I guess if they fixed it the game isn't irredeemably terrible or anything. Weird scoring system.
N64 Air Boarder 64 Hoverboard Was a little disappointed when I found out you don't actually have to get all the rings, and the score doesn't ever get harder. Great N64 vibes and cool stages, liked the character bios in the manual and the announcer guy
PS2 Sky Surfer Skydiving? What little gameplay this has is basically just "worst mario party minigame ever" and "worst pilotwings 64 ever". The balloon fan mode is tolerable. I was unable to land
PS2 Mountain Bike Adrenaline Mountain Bike Every time you collide with something you get stuck on it. The arcade missions about scoring and doing tricks were the bad part of the game, the fun part was just traversing the level and doing the rings and precision courses. Usually it'd be the other way around
PS1 MTV Sports: T.J. Lavin's Ultimate BMX BMX Another one of those games that's pretty good until you get to the harder objectives, then you really start to run up against the controls being really bad. The score multiplier mechanics led to some weird strats too, kinda Free Running-ish
PS2 Shaun Palmer's Pro Snowboarder Snowboarding Scoring is fun but way too many of the goals are about finding stuff, which isn't as good in a snowboarding game where you can only go in one direction. Pretty crap soundtrack too IMO but apparently that was a hot take, a bunch of people said they liked it
PS1 BursTrick Wake Boarding!! Wakeboarding Definitely a Simple 1500 game, there's not much here, but it looks great and plays good too. Cool that they gave it two completely separate sets of mechanics and stages for the two modes instead of just reusing stuff.
PS2 Surfroid Surfing This game has a very negative reputation but honestly once you grasp the controls it's kinda fun. Absolutely insane decision to not have a score counter though, like actually what were they thinking. Great alien theming that I think was unfortunately mostly lost in the US version...
PS2 Yanya Caballista Skateboarding Huge potential, there's a lot about this game to really like. The quarter pipes feel really broken though, and when Prison Island is like 80% quarterpipe it makes that level really ass. Do not touch the final level until you've got 100% in the first four otherwise you're doing the whole thing twice...
GBC Xtreme Sports Multiple Official minigame tier list: Skydiving > Street Luge > Inline Skating > Skateboarding > Surfing. Huge potential in the island overworld concept but apparently it was done kinda last-minute so I understand why it's basic. Game is way too long tbh lol
PS1 MTV Sports: Snowboarding Snowboarding Trick'n Snowboarder but without the great presentation. It's serviceable but short and not that exciting. Might have an ending that I didn't reach but it's unclear
PS2 Alpine Racer 3 Skiing Absolutely insane visuals and soundtrack, the final stage basically turned into Wipeout on skiis. The racing is decent enough
PS1 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 Skateboarding It's fine. The goals are kinda boring, it's mostly score based instead of finding stuff based which I generally appreciate but some more variety/creativity would be nice. ofc that's probably asking too much from this specific game lol
PS1 Skydiving Extreme Skydiving 20 minute game where you just do QTEs. Seems mostly geared around multiplayer but it isn't very interactive, like you can't do much to the other guy so why bother? Game seemed impossible to beat as Big Man but easy as another character, I may be missing a mechanic
PS1 X-Bladez: Inline Skater Rollerblading I still had fun for some reason, but objectively the game is not good. Still more of a game than some of the other budget ps1 stuff I played that day
PS1 Barbie Super Sports Multiple Kinda just an extreme sports reskin of Elmo's Letter Adventure / Number Journey. I get this is probably for really small children but idk, I was a small child once and I still played more real games than this
PS2 Skateboard Madness: Xtreme Edition Skateboarding When you get to the end of the game, instead of any kind of ending you get the same "New level unlocked" text that every other level gives you, but there's nothing left to unlock so it's just wrong. That's the level of care put into every aspect of the game
PS1 Radikal Bikers Pizza Delivery Not as chaotic as Smashing Drive, Radikal mode might have something going on but I finished Arcade mode and couldn't really be bothered. Arcade version may be better
PS2 AirBlade Hoverboard Very abrupt non-ending. I'm more forgiving of having to redo stuff and the difficulty of the last level now that I know how short the game is. The hoverboard definitely controls weird but the game's not bad, it's kinda good
PS2 Skate Attack Skateboarding Commendable how much they decided to do for a budget game, but making you spend ages in each of the levels kinda ruined the potential fun
PS3 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD Skateboarding Given what diasters Ride/Shred/THPS5 are, I expected much worse from this. It does kind of run like ass on PS3, and the physics are definitely kinda wonky sometimes, and I guess the "HD" actually just looks bad (that's just how UE3 looked tbh), but it's playable and not a total disaster.
DC Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX BMX Much better than I remember Mat Hoffman 2 being. I still don't get why every BMX game has to control like crap on purpose though. Only had 5 goals per level and only 2 competitions which made it feel kinda short. Also, the jump for the secret cover in the first level is insane lol
