What is 100%?

This game has an actual percentage counter, so the 100% category just means beating the game while making that counter say 100%.

Are you doing this in one sitting?

Hell no. This run will be done in multiple sittings, meaning I pause the timer when I'm not playing. The run will be done in large chunks over the course of several days. This is called "Time Attack" timing, and is not a "segmented run" because I am not allowed to retry segments.

What is world record?

World Record is 39:50:19 by me :)
Previously, it was 47:35:20 also by me, and before that there was no run but we estimated it was likely 60-70 hours by someone else.

What is included?

  • All 78 substories (this includes the four Amon fights)
  • All sidestories fully completed (taxi driver, hunting, idol jobs, baseball)
  • Complete All 29 minigames
  • Collect all 100 locker keys + 30 treasure maps + 20 lottery tickets + S-Rank Garbage + 25 photographs
  • S-Rank all 5 hostesses
  • Perform all 125 unique heat actions
  • Craft all 115 weapons
  • Win Victory Road, and every coliseum tournament as every character (requires colosseum rank 4 on everyone)
  • Eat all food and drink at all restaurants
  • Do all training masters

What is not included?

Some things that people might think are required but aren't include:

  • Sotaro Komaki
  • Noa Amon
  • Some Minamida stuff
  • Max level all characters
  • Max level all weapons
  • Playing on legend
  • Ultimate match
Beating the game doesn't actually get you completion percentage either, so technically it shouldn't be required, but I'm still doing it.

What version of the game are you playing on?

I'm playing on PC, it's the fastest version of the game for 100%.

  • Pachinko/Slots removed - two less long RNG minigames to do
  • All Pachinko-related cheat items have been replaced with cheat items for other games, making them faster (this mostly speeds up Cee-lo and Poker)
  • Using the mouse makes Kamuro batting center much easier
  • Weapon drop glitch (which uses the PC-only load menu) makes the colosseum slightly faster
  • Can reload for lucky day texts faster

Why are you doing this?

100% speedruns are a bit of a meme in the Yakuza community because every month or two someone new appears claiming they're going to do one, and they almost never deliver. I want to actually complete a 100% speedrun, and I want to do it in Y5 because it's my favorite and also a notoriously overstuffed game

Have you actually routed this, or are you just trying to go through it fast?

Yes, I have actually routed this! You can see the full route along with tons of infodump here: [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1YhxfWFORpbfjkAN9V7BwTw-f8o9oC6eM9YOYafpTkjo/edit?usp=sharings]

What could still be improved about the run?

Route improvements I can think of:

  • Specific usages of AppStim/LDR for every restaurant, instead of just buying a surplus and hoping for the best
  • Reorganize the finale city cleanups - open Sotenbori lockers in 3-4, then have Saejima do the big Kamurocho sweep w/ gambling immediately in 5-5 (this has a lot of implications on the route)
  • Reroute the any% chapters using Tomppaa's all substories route, which is likely better than mine

Mistakes/bad things that happened during this run:

  • Forgot to do Heat Eye course in Nagoya batting center, had to backtrack to Kineicho for it
  • Forgot to recruit Kiryu's hostess to Elise, had to backtrack to Nagasugai for it
  • Didn't understand lucky day text re-rolling during gambling, got an unlucky day during Oicho-Kabu and had to stall for time until it changes
  • Invested the bloody binding at item crafting instead of using it as a material, had to go buy another form the colosseum shop
  • Pool did not go well
  • Very bad golden stag RNG
