In the recent weeks since they began talking, Dalv moved from loitering at the tables to loitering at the counter to spend time with Bero
He wasn't the wealthiest monster, but that morning Penilla had given him a cut of a corn-themed commission she sold recently for inspiring her, which he used to buy breakfast for himself
As they talk, the subject of her wanting to be a teacher comes up
She goes into a flurry of complaints about her efforts to become one
"A-and have you seen the requirements they have to become a teacher? Even for little kids? It's ridiculous! I have to wait 3 years till i'm 25 before I can even take a bar exam! A BAR EXAM! I understand why King Asgore wants to make sure that children are getting the best but-"
Her faces whumps down onto the counter's surface in a familiar display of embarrassment
"Oh, I'm just rambling again, aren't I?"
Dalv just stares down at her with an unchanged expression
"It's fine, I don't mind."
Her head peaks up from her folded arms
"...You don't?"
"I always found it to be the best way to get my thoughts out. Back in...where I previously lived, I would talk to myself whenever I went for a walk. My uhm, neighbors found it strange, and would even say things about it when they thought I wasn't listening, which hurt my feelings. So it wouldn't be fair if I judged you for doing the same thing."
Bero's lips begin to quiver and tears form in her eyes, shocking the vampire
"O-oh dear, I didn't say something rude, did I?"
"No no no no no, you didn't say anything bad! That was sweet! I can't remember the last time anyone said something like that to me..."
"Oh! Good, good..."
They continue talking until Bero's family notices he's been there for several hours without buying anything and he leaves
