Katrina's Diary

It's been a while.

This is the first time I've written a letter like this. But firstly, let me apologise for not giving you all any updates. I'm sorry for making you all worry.

Don't think that I've decided to throw everything away and go quiet. If you done something you think is bad, the least you can do is apologise.

It sure has been while since I've left hasn't it?

As for me, I've finally gotten used to the lifestyle here. And with that in mind, I thought it was an appropriate time to send you a letter to give you an update. Although you may have received the news from social before I even said anything.

Right now, I've living in Asakusa in Tokyo. I'm sure you've at least heard of that place before. It's one of the most well known places around the world.

Tokyo, known for their tight and compact streets, and all the high-rise buildings. I've sure you have a good image on the height of the them in your head. Oh right, speaking of high-rise buildings, I still haven't gotten used to the buttons in the elevators. I will press the number 3 because I want to reach the 3rd floor, only to be put onto the floor below where I wanted. Apparently the way that Germans and Japanese people count floors are different. Isn't that strange?

These kinds of differences between Germany and Japan are everywhere and I'm constantly surprised at it all. This country is full of people who work of days off, can you believe it? I was taken aback that there are all sorts of stores that are still open on a Sunday. I thought that Germans were unbeatable when it comes to diligence but the Japanese are a different breed.

But recently, I've come to understand the enrichment when it comes to the work and play of the people of this country. I think everyone here puts their best into everything. Since the place I'm living in, Asakusa is a popular tourist location, that sort of feeling is very evident.

Oh right, speaking of Asakusa, there are modern buildings and traditional building situated next to each other, so the whole streets feel like they're out of a stage set. And additionally that people that live on these streets, always look like they're having fun. It's almost as if they're trying to make that stage that is Asakusa more exciting. Asakusa is the place in Tokyo that has the most connections to theater, so maybe that's just a connection I'm making as an actor myself.

There are lots of stages that star movie stars and comedians in Asakusa. Among those, one of my favourite areas is the Rokku Broadway. It's home to the Asakusa Engei Hall and the Asakusa Mokubakan, where you can feel the passion of the aspiring actors around you. I'm sure for actors like me, you will experience the same rush as I did. I've attached a photo so you can get an idea of the atmosphere.

That photo was taken by my roommate, who's also a fellow actor in the same troupe, when we went out. The truth is, I wanted to attach a more actor-like photo but this one was the one that turned out the best...

Taking the photos was a pain. At first I declined the photo at first before being told, "How about we take a photo to commemorate your determination to become a Daistar!"... How could I escape from that? And so, once I gave permission, it suddenly became a whole photo shoot... I ended up taking all these movie-star-like "sightseeing with friends" photos. The one attached to the letter is still the best one. We had plans to see a rakugo performance, so we were rushing to get those photos taken.

Oh, I need to talk about rakugo! I went to see this traditional Japanese performance, it was a wonderful experience! It's a remnant from the olden times of Japan so I had to have my roommate explain the more confusing aspects of it. I was taken aback by the amount of monologue and story-telling, and the comedy was very well delivered!

The performance was called "Sokotsu Nagaya"... Sokotsu meaning something like carelessness and Nagaya is something akin to apartments... If were to explain the entire thing, this letter would just go and on. I'll tell you about the streaming site at a later time, but do take your time and check it out.

If you asked me a while ago, I never would've missed Germany. But coming to Asakusa and meeting all sorts of people and finding out what I want to do, I have found something that my hometown has that is irreplaceable. But now is not the time to dwell on the past.

The actors around me... my rivals. They're wonderful people. When we're together, I feel I can break out of my shell a lot more. That's why I wont give up. Now's not the time to reflect on the past. If I do that, I'll also let everyone else down.

Now, I think from the bottom of my heart, that being able to stand on stage is blissfule nough.

This troupe, Sirius has made me realise this... I will definitely become a Daistar.

If you feel up for it... I would love for you to come see me on stage here. When that time comes, I would love to show you around the area here.

See ya. Let's meet each other again at the theater.
