AB MUD Quickstart

AB MUD is a cooperative MUD (Multi-User Dungeon) server focused primarily on ABDL RP and interactions. Like other MUD servers, the players interact with the server by using a MUD client, like Mudlet or MUSHclient. There are also other clients, but those are probably the two main ones. To start, install your client of choice.

Once you have the client installed, you'll need to connect to the server. You'll need to create a new realm configuration and enter in the connection details as shown here:

  • Profile Name: AB MUD
  • Server Address: abmud.com
  • Port: 10185

Once saved, you can connect. When logging into the server for the first time, you'll be asked for your character name. A player may have any number of characters (or alts), but we'll start with just one. When choosing the name, DON'T choose a name that looks more like a user name. Your character's name should be a normal name, and is what other players will see when looking at you, interacting with you, etc. If you try picking a name that is already in use, the game will ask you for their password. If that happens, just disconnect, re-connect, and try again.

Once you enter your character's new name, you'll need to create a password and enter your gender. The server does not currently support non-binary genders, but you have a lot of control over your in-game description, so in the end it doesn't matter too much what you choose here. Once you've done these things, you'll enter the character creation area.

Character Creation

First, you'll need to read the rules. Once you've read them, confirm it by sending rules confirm. The MUD works by entering in commands via the input line to make things happen in game, so you'll need to get familiar with all the options. You can get a lot of information by typing help, or typing help <command> where <command> is the name of the command you want help with. You can also see a list of many of the commands by typing commands.

Once you've confirmed the rules, you'll need to set your character description attributes. First, set the age of your character by using the age command. Let's start by making you an early teen age 13 years. This strikes a good balance of being able to babied, and being able to baby-sit if desired. Then, you'll need to use the dset command to set your hair color, and how people see you in game. Use the help dset command to see the different options. You can see how others will see you by typing look. It should have your correct hair and age description. Finally, type finished to go to the next step!

It's time to make your character description! Use the desc command to set your in-game description. You can set this to whatever you want, across multiple lines if you like. I recommend writing your description in a text editor first, and then copying it into the MUD. To start the editor, type desc. Enter your first line of description, press enter, and then type your second line, enter, etc. If you want to show what you've typed so far, enter .s on a blank line. When you're done, type .f to format your text, .s to show what you're written, and finally @ to save what you've written. Type look me to see yourself and what you've written. This is what other people will see when they look at you.

Next, type finished. This will bring you to the next part of character creation: diaper and agelevel. These are things that will affect how the game engine handles your character. diaper affects your potty training. Lower diaper levels means you'll have less control over when and where you go to the bathroom. diaper infant, for example, will make it so the game doesn't tell you when you're bladder is full, and you may wet yourself without any notification. Other may notice, or if you check yourself, you may find out. Higher diaper levels will make it so the game informs you that you feel you need to go to the bathroom soon, but you may still wet yourself if you don't get there in time. If you hold in your bladder too much, you may wet yourself anyway (no one can hold it in forever!). I recommend setting this to diaper advanced to start.

agelevel affects how you can interact with the game in some areas. For example, if you set your agelevel too high, you won't be able to use the relaxation center in the Blue Lagoon. I recommend setting this to agelevel teen for now, as it will give you a good balance for your first character.

You may also change these later in the game, so don't worry too much about going to high or too low for now. Type finished to get to the final character creation prompt.

Finally, you'll want to have some clothes! Don't want to be running around naked, right? At least not to start with :P. Use the outfit command to get yourself some basic clothes, including shoes, socks, shirt/pants/dress, and other accessories you may want. For example, if you want some pink shoes, type outfit shoes pink, and you should see the message Item has been created and is in your inventory.. You can then wear the shoes by typing wear shoes . You can remove items from your body by typing remove shoes. I would also recommend using the command auto tags to turn on item tag visibility. This will help you interact with items in a big pile more easily by showing you the different tags. To reference an item by its tags (or multiple tags), use single quotes around the tags you want to reference. For example wear 'pink shoe' would let you wear the pink shoes if you had multiple types of shoes in your inventory.

If you need to get rid of an item you created accidentally, remove the item from your body, drop the item (drop 'pink shoes') and then junk the item by typing junk 'pink shoes'

Ok, type complete! This will teleport you to the world, which you can explore. Each area you travel to will have a list of exits, and to navigate, simply enter in the name of the exit. door for example will get you out into the overworld. You may need to open an exit door first if it's closed though. Look around, visit some stores, list other players online with who and see where they are with mwhere. You can talk to people directly with tell <player> <message> and reply to people who message you with either tell or reply. If you're in a shop with a vendor, you can type list to show items you can get there, and buy '<item tags>' to get that item into your inventory. No money in this game, so everything is free! If you're in a store with shelves, you can use the command examine shelf to look inside the shelf, and then get '<item tags>' shelf to get the item from the shelf. This works for all "container" objects.

Ok, that's it for this simple guide! Explore, ask others, and have fun!
