09 backstory ❥ ⁺⊹˚
the dancer and his demon within.
from a young age, yohan has been troubled. it all began at the age of four when he was possessed. his parents thought nothing of his distressed ramblings, assuming it was the usual child imagination running wild. when they would find yohan talking to seemingly thin air, they chalked it up to being an imaginary friend of some sort. but that is not the case. yøgi is NOT his friend. never has been and never will be.
the demon latched onto him at a young age and has refused to let go ever since. over the course of his life, this possession has caused many problems for yohan. going through school, he could never make friends. no one wanted to be friends with the strange boy that broke down screaming and crying every other hour over seemingly nothing.
no one wanted to be bothered with the disturbed boy who drew horrific images and threw himself off the playscapes at recess.
yøgi is destructive —— he’s sadistic in all the worst ways and feeds off of his human, yohan’s, pain and suffering.
yohan’s parents would dismiss all of their sons injuries as him just being clumsy. nothing out of the ordinary about a clumsy kid, right?
wrong. yohan has been in and out of the hospital many times over the course of adolescence to adulthood. cuts, scrapes, bruises, fractures, sprains, broken bones— you name it. it wasn’t until an incident at the age of 7 when yohan woke his parents with his shouting in the middle of the night that they began to worry.
his parents walked in to the sight of their son with his hands around his own neck, thrashing on his bed. it took the two of them to pry the child’s hands away from his throat. when yohan tried to explain that it wasn’t him, they didn’t believe him. they sent him to a children’s psychiatrist after that — told the professional that their son has an overactive imagination that turned harmful.
when the psychiatrist didn’t believe him, yohan lost all hope. no one believed him. kids at school thought he was strange. his parents thought he had an overactive imagination. everyone thought he was crazy. his parents had no choice but to withdraw him from therapy. yohan refused to speak with any counselors. he would spend sessions sitting in silence, glaring at the ground while they tried to coax him into telling a story they wouldn’t believe anyway. when yohan made it to high school, things changed.
yøgi went from only appearing as a cruel voice in his mind to taking over a bigger part of him. himself. his mind. his body. visually, yøgi appeared as an unsettling, intimidating copy of yohan. nearly identical with the exception of icy blue eyes that contrast his own, dark smudges around his eyes mimicking makeup and lips bitten red, bleeding at the edges.
the first time yohan physically saw yøgi rather than just hearing and feeling him was during a typical lunch break. yohan had resorted to spending his lunch periods in the bathrooms in high school. he had been in the middle of washing his hands when he looked into the mirror. his reflection stared back at him, but it wasn’t him. he’d tried to wipe away the differences he spotted in the mirror, but his reflection didn’t move with him, just stared back at him grinning wickedly.
yøgi remained that way for the entirety of his first year of high school: only appearing to his eyes when he’d look in any reflective surface — appearing in his head as a warped image of himself instead of just a voice. a voice deeper, colder, and so much more menacing than his own.
by his second year of high school, things changed again. yøgi began to take over his body, completely changing his physical appearance to match the demon’s. the first time it happened, yohan woke up in his bedroom confused and panting like he’d just woken from a nightmare. a whole day passed and he couldn’t remember any of it, only recalled a terrible dream that turned out to not be a dream at all, but rather a playthrough of everything yøgi had done while he took over.
they had swapped roles. yohan was seeing things happen as yøgi did them while remaining in a state of unconsciousness. it was a living nightmare.
this is what happens every time yøgi takes over. yohan can see and hear everything going on, but he can’t move. he’s helpless. yøgi is much stronger than him and able to take over whenever he pleases whereas yohan struggles to regain control, only getting it when the demon allows him back into his own body.
usually, yogi’s destruction would only be aimed at yohan, but that changed too when he got into his first fight in high school. yohan had been bullied nonstop, but he kept his head down and just let it happen. when a physical altercation broke out in the form of a guy pushing yohan down in the hallway, yøgi took over. yøgi had landed the guy in a hospital. recordings of the fight circulated around the school ‘strange kid beats bullies ass’.
multiple punches with impossible force, stomping on a body that was already down, ending with the guy being thrown down a flight of stairs. yohan was suspended. when he was able to return to school, no one dared to bully him anymore. while he was thankful for that, he knew yøgi could care less about helping him. he only took over because he likes inflicting pain.
that brings the timeline to the present. yohan is in college, accepted to the performing arts university of his dreams as a dance major, but stuck with this demon that just won’t let go of him. two people in one shared body with notable differences in appearance and voice.
