DRAGON Dragons are large reptiles with bat-like wings, forked tongues, and narrow triangular heads on long slender necks. They are divided into different types, loosely by environment and color. Depending on their type they are able to breathe dangerous substances in combat; such as fire, acid and steam. While their "breath weapon" is usually aligned to their type, there are notable exceptions, rare mutations resulting in such unique specimens as acid-breathing red dragons or fire-breathing green dragons. Dragons are the only creatures known to absorb magical energy, and are drawn to hoarding gold. A dragon’s thick scales will protect them from most weapons so in order to kill one it must be shot through the heart or eyes, as these are the only uncovered spots.
ARACHNE Arachne are half-humanoid spider hybrids, with their lower body resembling that of a large eight-legged spider, belonging to their arachne parent, and the upper body resembling their non-Arachne parent, whether they be human, elf, dwarf, orc, or another. Arachne stand at roughly 7 feet tall on average. Their spider’s half retains the attributes of the species of spider they belong to. Commonly found arachne sub-species includes wolf spiders, jumping spiders, and widow spiders. Arachne are much more likely to be female at birth, giving the impression that all arachne are female when in reality male arachne are simply much rarer. Pure-bred arachne are born between two arachne parents or a humanoid being graced/cursed with the power of a spider goddess, while the more commonly found “hybrid” Arachne are born between an Arachne and a non-Arachne humanoid. Ability wise, they are powerful warriors and agile hunters, capable of operating in a wide range of terrain but a fairly narrow climate. Their domineering presence on the battlefield is enough to intimidate the hardiest of warriors, and they’re no stranger to a violent bloodbath. An Arachne is the bane of unwary travelers and fledgeling adventurers. Others are vain but flattering, making their names as diplomats or aristocrats. They are an ally’s greatest asset and an enemy’s worst nightmare. Most arachne are solitary by nature and prefer living on their own, whether on the fringes of the city or the depths of the wilderness. Most arachne are seen with fear and disgust and have become accustomed to hostile met by strangers and travelers, developing a darker, more cynical world view. On the rare occasion, an arachne will be met with hospitality and will live with other races in small villages serving as wilderness guides, weavers, builders, and alchemists. They can be hurt or killed by ordinary weapons, but they’re also weak to fire.
LAMIA Lamias are dangerous monsters that lived to bring strife and suffering into the world. They are typically cruel and seductive beings who lured their victims closer to doom with illusions of beauty. A typical lamia stood over 6 ft (1.8 m) tall. Most appeared to be beautiful women from the waist up but had the bodies of powerful lions from the waist down. However, these were the weakest forms of lamia. Lamia nobles had the lower bodies of serpents, which often led to them being confused with medusas. The most powerful of lamias could change their lower bodies as easily as a mortal being changed their clothes. They use a variety of abilities, including seduction, disguise, ventriloquism, illusions, mirages, mirror images and other such things, to lure, entice and confuse those who wandered into their midst. They can be killed with any ordinary weapon.
TROLL Trolls are giant, humanoid creatures. They usually reside in the wild, but often are found living under bridges (which they often build themselves) and demand toll from travelers. While trolls used to be feared and hunted in the past, nowadays people are used to having a troll around, especially considering that paying the toll is cheaper than maintenance of the bridge. Regarding their powers, trolls are incredibly strong and durable creatures. Their skin is hard like stone, but beneath there are muscles and a heart that pumps blood. And since they bleed, they can be killed. Due to their huge size, knocking them down or unbalancing them in combat is highly unlikely. Their ability to regenerate is legendary, and means they need not fear wounds or oils increasing bleeding. However, their fast metabolism has a darker side, since these monsters are very susceptible to venoms – these swiftly reach all recesses of the trollish body.
DOPPELGANGER A doppelganger is a monster than can transform into anyone they choose to. Their appearance, as would be expected, is highly variable. Trying to state all their possible forms is thus obviously impossible. They do have a tendency to prefer one appearance over all others and will present as such on a regular basis. It can copy the physical form of anyone it comes into contact with. While in the copied form, it can use any and all physical powers the original form possesses. However, this copying ability is not perfect, as it's only able to copy forms but not mindsets or other nonphysical traits. While in a copied form, it will also have the same weaknesses as the original monster.
CYCLOPS Cyclopses can easily be recognized by the single eye located in the center of their foreheads. If for some reason that is not visible, other tell-tale signs are their enormous size, incredible strength and a seething hatred for all humans. Their one eye is rumored to cause fear in any who looked at it. Their single eye gave them poor depth perception, however, and therefore they can’t use missile weapons very well. Cyclops are also known for being amazing blacksmiths, capable of crafting amazing weapons. Their main weakness is their eye - the best way to kill them is by piercing it with a spear.
MINOTAUR Minotaurs were large, muscular humanoids. They had the head of a bull, upper torso, hands, and the body of a human, and hooved feet. Their fur and wild hair typically ranged from brown to black. The fur often covered the forearms, chest, abdomen, and legs. Minotaur bodies are much taller than humans, usually around 2,7 meters/9 feet. Minotaurs possess almost uncanny tracking and navigational abilities and a superbly keen sense of smell. They could easily visualize any path they needed to take to get close to the prey. They’re not highly intelligent but they’re instinctively cunning and are adept at ambush attacks. In general, minotaurs are incredibly strong and agile and will usually fight by utilizing their horns for charge attacks. They can be killed with ordinary weapons.
CENTAUR A centaur is a creature whose head, torso, and arms appear to be human and are joined to a horse's lower body. Like horses, centaurs could come in a variety of colours, ranging from deep black to white. They’re capable of practicing magic and are known to be especially good at divination. The centaur’s lower body makes them quite fast and strong but these monsters are also known for being incredibly wise. They also live for quite a long time (up to 500 years) but they can be killed with ordinary weapons.
DULLAHAN Dullahans are mostly humanoid in appearance, but very distinctly have a floating, disembodied head that is separate from their body. They’re also known as headless horsemen. Their skin ranges from blue to purple, somewhat dark and unsaturated. They are slightly taller than humans on average, with naturally broad, imposing frames. Even if a dullahan can have low muscle and body fat, they rarely look skinny due to the width and depth of their skeletal structure. Their otherwise human face is distinct for having an incredibly wide mouth that extends from one side of their head to the other. Dullahans can unhinge their jaw to open their gaping mouth to an impossible width. Like certain other undead, dullahan powers depend on whether they were born with them, or given them, and in the case of the latter, what race they were before. However, the powers all dullahan have in common are these: invisibility; intangibility; ecto-physical mass manipulation; natural proficiency with various weapons, usually swords, but sometimes also scythes, axes, and even guns; telescopic vision; fear inducement through magic; among others. Dullahan also possess a unique bond to their spectral horse, and they are able to easily communicate with and command it, as if they were one being as opposed to two. Their weaknesses include iron/steel, gold or golden objects and lastly, dullahan skulls. Their own skulls are their main link to the mortal world, and as such, are their biggest weaknesses. If someone other than the dullahan possesses their skull, that dullahan is forced to obey them. Also, if someone destroys the dullahan's skull, their link to the mortal realm is severed, and the dullahan will cease to exist.
JOROGUMO A Jorōgumo (Spider Woman) is a type of yokai. A Jorōgumo's monster form looks identical to its human form with the exception of compound eyes and a set of eight spider-like legs that protrude out of the now-segmented stomach. When fully transformed, their mouths turn to multi-joint mandibles and their face mold toward more angular in shape to fit the mouth. The male version of the Jorougumo is the Tsuchigumo. Like the spider they resemble, the Jorōgumo can produce web-like threads used to capture prey. Also like the spider, they have no problem crawling on their own webs without getting stuck. They can spin thick silk and carry powerful venom. Therefore, they’re immune to most venoms but are frightened of fire.
