Among them are bizarre sea creatures, a giant pink rabbit with an explosive temper, and a mummy whose bandages are accidentally torn away during a slapstick-filled showdown. The footage leans heavily into the franchise’s signature physical comedy while expanding its visual and narrative scope. The film is directed by Pierre Coffin, a long-time creative force behind the franchise who also provides the iconic voices of the Minions. The screenplay is written by Brian Lynch, known for his work on previous Minions films and The Secret Life of Pets. Producing duties are handled by Illumination founder Chris Meledandri alongside Bill Ryan. The sequel follows the success of Despicable Me 4, released in 2024. Since its debut in 2010, the Despicable Me franchise has earned more than $5 billion globally, cementing its status as the highest-grossing animated franchise of all time.
