Song Qingshi is a medical student from the modern world. He dies and is transmigrated into a Xianxia setting of a novel "The Exceptional Furnace" and told to find the protagonist with the description that they were a man, a beauty, and suffered a terrible fate. He is supposed to save this man from being a slave, buying him at an auction and fixing the terrible original story. He manages to narrow down the options to just two people, Yue Wuhuan whom he met by a river when he first awoke after transmigrating, someone who had been a slave since childhood and was deeply abused, or Bai Zihao, a newly enslaved innocent looking young man. Due to Song Qingshi's lack of genre awareness, he incorrectly chooses Yue Wuhuan, who in actuality only appeared in the original novel three times as a minor villain. Song Qingshi is determined not to fail his mission, which he thinks of as an 'exam' and goes to great lengths to try to heal Yue Wuhuan of his physical and psychological injuries. Song Qingshi has two sacred fires inside of him, the Red Lotus Fire for refining pills, and the Underworld Ghost Fire for killing people. He uses the Cold Jade Technique to control them, this makes him have an unusually cold body temperature. He is also known in Medicine King Vally as "Medicine King Xianzun". He has a single water-type spiritual route, which makes him very desirable to people wanting to dual cultivate. He has been cultivating the Way of the Heartless for nearly a thousand years by the time of the main story, at least 900 of which were spent inside his home and the remaining time spent gathering medicine in mountains or secret realms. Physically, he is not very tall and relatively thin, pale, and described as having "clear eyes." He enjoys sweets and is not good with money. He has minor mysophobia, disliking things which are unsanitary due to his medical knowledge of diseases and bacteria. He almost always wears white, including the modern styled night clothes he had custom made near the beginning of the book. Though he wears white to avoid looking frail, he prefers bright colors. He has a habit of reciting medical scriptures in his sleep. Song Qingshi is a medical student from the modern world. He was sickly and asocial, having no friends and dedicating all his time into studying. When he dies from his chronic sickness, Lou Gehrig's Disease, he is transmigrated into the Xianxia Novel "The Exceptional Furnace." It is later revealed that this world is not a novel at all, but that this story was just an excuse for the system to give tasks. Song Qingshi is his modern life had a mother, father, and sister. His mother was an internationally renowned pianist, because of her, music became his only hobby outside of studying during his modern life. He uses his memories of this family to help him interact with the world, such as remembering his sister telling him not to ask women about their weight, and her giving business advice about selling to investors. His elder sister raised an Alaskan Malamute, which was very unruly, and Song Qingshi gives An Long the nickname "Alaskan Malamute" because of it. She was apparently also incredibly clever, beautiful, and rich, so was sought after by a great number of men wanting to marry her. He also mentions that his father told him that in order to have a happy marriage, his partner is always correct, and if they are not, refer to the first part of the advice. This sentiment was supported by his mother and sister. When Song Qingshi and Yue Wuhuan finally begin their relationship, he tends to follow this idea. In his "current life" Song Qingshi was raised by a kind old pharmacist in a hidden realm in the mountains. After the pharmacist’s death, he cultivated and studied by himself until eventually leaving to explore the world. Due to his ragged, emaciated appearance he was shunned by most people. At the beginning of the story, Song Qingshi got his inheritance accidentally. He only ever learned his master's surname was "Song" and given he had no surname at the time, took it out of respect. His master is described as a man who likes to question everything. Authority, knowledge, the nature of the world, anything and everything. Master Song didn't want to be respected as a master, but for his knowledge and abilities. He was taught because of his inherent talent for medicine and poisons, as well as the two spiritual fires he was born with. Song Qingshi in this life was orphaned due to the violence and massacre going on around the time of his birth. 800 years before the start of the story, Song Qingshi found a dying half-demon child who had three poisons inside him. This was Song Qingshi's first complex patient, and he took him to a broken mountain temple to hide as he healed him due to the stigma around half-demon children. After two years, he sent the child to live with Ci Bei Xianzun, but the child ran away not long after. Song Qingshi originally started as a white stone which had been refined with red lotus fire by the heavenly emperor. It was sued to suppress the flames of the underworld and was forgotten about. However, in suppressing the underworld flames, it saved billions of lives, and this mixed with the fact it began to be worshiped by mortals due to the Phoenix God (Yue Wuhuan) coveting the stone for its beauty and often visiting it, which made mortals speculate and suspect the stone was once an immortal, eventually earned the stone enough merits to ascend as a god, gaining consciousness and becoming Song Qingshi. When Yue Wuhuan the Phoenix God was trapped in the mortal realm by demons and none of the other gods succeeded in freeing him, Song Qingshi volunteered to try. Though none of the other gods believed the simple rock who could not even speak was capable of saving the phoenix god, no one tried to stop him as they believed it would be no harm. Song Qingshi proceeded to repeatedly attempt to save Yue Wuhuan for just over 1350 lifetimes. Song Qingshi is highly intelligent, but extremely emotionally unaware and uses logic to try to reason out people's behavior and what his reaction to it should be- often coming to strange or incorrect conclusions. He is content to be alone for the most part, though he is curious about other people, and fulfills himself with his work. He cares very deeply about the white mice uses for his research, taking good care of them. He cares very little for people's opinions of him, having a reputation as the strange and eccentric master of Medicine Valley. Song Qingshi is extremely stubborn, never giving up once he has made up his mind to do something. He believes failure is a necessary part of the process of living, and that every failure should be documented so it can be avoided. When Song Qingshi and Yue Wuhuan eventually have a relationship, Song Qingshi is aware of his own inexperience and does various research in romance and sexual novels in order to prepare, even going so far as to memorize lines the characters say. Due to this, he is very adventurous, even so far as to give Yue Wuhuan a few surprises despite his experience.
