It's Time To Forget Toto Asia: 10 Reasons Why You Don't Need It

The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities abroad and operating in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. Toto believed that North America as a growth market for Washlet's bidets and toilets, in contrast to its "base" markets of Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto was documenting Toto words to ensure that the next generation could comprehend them. However, many words were being replaced with foreign ones, like dui, which is Bengali for verandah.

Origins

Established in 1917, Toto's early years were a mirror of Japan's economic growth. In the beginning of its existence, the company manufactured products to meet the demand for modern and contemporary urban housing. It was the first tunnel kiln in the nation that could produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered the use of automation to control production, allowing for more efficiency and consistency.

In the late 1980s, the company began expanding overseas to profit from sales and new markets. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and distributing other products from other manufacturers to complement its own range of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy helped to increase sales and expand the firm’s global market share.

In the 1990s, Toto began focusing on research and development for water-related appliances. It also upgraded its distribution system to better serve customers and improve profit. The company used the same approach of just-in-time in its supply chain management and sales program. This led to a higher level of satisfaction of customers.

Toto continues to invent toilet technology. The most recent toilet features a powerful, environmentally-friendly tornado flush. Toto uses recycled water in its manufacturing process and also has a green purchasing policy. In addition to toilets, Toto manufactures bathtubs and faucets and hand dryers that are more energy efficient than conventional models.

The first Toto museum opened in the year 2015. It has exhibitions on Toto's most famous products and their evolution, the group companies (all of which are ceramics) and the history of plumbing, and other products like bath units. In a separate gallery you will find Toto products that are sold across the world. The museum also has a bathroom that includes the WASHLET toilet, as well as other toilet-related innovations.

Before beginning the formation of Toto members of the group did sessions with various musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro and guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather all played on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. They also played on records by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

With a name as evocative as Asia one would expect the group to be prog kings and queens however, it's actually a fairly straightforward rock band. The group started out as a quartet and recorded two albums - 1979's self titled debut and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The band has a varied musical background, but their greatest success was in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a huge blockbuster but not without its difficulties. The record companies put Toto under pressure to deliver the top single or they would rescind them. Toto was able achieve this through the aid of the smash hit "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is due to their previous experiences in the music industry, as the band members were session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts before starting the group. Their sonic signature has become the norm for '80s pop, influencing many contemporary artists.

The album opens up hard with songs like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write great AOR songs that slowly sink into your head. However, the album also includes some more mellow, jazzy tracks such as The Little Things and Chinatown. The album closes with Great Expectations. This song blends folk and the distorted AOR that could seem like a complete blunder, but works very well.

After Toto IV, the band's fortunes began to wane. David Hungate left the band to focus on his solo career, and the band had a variety of drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the band after drug charges. The band continued with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.

Toto released Isolation despite the turbulence. It wasn't as well-liked as IV. The band managed to release a chart-topping album, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked Toto's final lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new vocalist.

Steve Lukather and Joe Williams have developed a deep, colorful friendship that thrives professionally on a global basis. In 2018, the duo celebrated their 40th anniversary of Tours Around The Sun by a hugely successful tour around the world. The album with the same title reached #5 on Billboard 200. The band's new tour includes their best hits and rarely performed live deep cuts, along with some of the songs from Lukather and Williams' individual catalogs.

Line-up

Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was an attempt to return to the classic sextet format, and an even more consistent and powerful effort with a harder edge. Its edgier sound was a reflection of the maturation of the group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's increased proficiency on the drums, as well as a more confident, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard work was as well more refined, more precise, and less derivative on previous recordings.

After touring to promote their album, the group recorded an Amsterdam live show that was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. The group released a brand new studio album a few months after and then embarked on a world tour promote it. In this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich and Lukather started looking through old demo tapes and tapes to make an album that would feature songs that had never been recorded before. It was completed as a double-album titled Then and Now in 2001. It was the band's first album that did not contain a single song titled "A". The album also contained a previously unreleased track "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial flop and vocalist Williams was suffering from a severe case of laryngitis which hampered his singing. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.

Downes along with the other original members of Asia--Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened a meeting in England in early 2006 to discuss the possibility of formally reforming the group. The lineup, which was minus Howe (who was busy with Yes at the time), eventually became known as Toto XIV and toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. 안전놀이터 had a guest appearance by singer Michael McDonald, and a backing singer named Mabvuto Carpenter.
