Professional baseball LG-Lotte trade agreement to swap Son Ho-young and Woo Kang-hoon

Son Ho-young succeeds in stealing a base

Professional baseball's LG Twins and Lotte Giants have agreed to their second trade this year alone.

On the 30th, the LG and Lotte teams announced, “We have decided to exchange infielder Son Ho-young (29) and submarine pitcher Woo Kang-hoon (21).”

Last January, LG sent free agent (FA) player Kim Min-seong to Lotte in a ‘sign and trade’ format. This time, the infielder was used as a trade card.

Lotte, which has many young promising pitchers, succeeded in reinforcing its infield defense and offense by bringing in Son Ho-young instead of sending out Woo Kang-hoon.

Son Ho-young graduated from Chunghun High School and signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs in 2014 while attending Hongik University.

In the United States, he made various attempts, including turning into a pitcher, but was unable to make it to the big leagues.

Son Ho-young, who returned to Korea after being released from the Cubs in 2017 and completed military service, played for Yeoncheon Miracle in the independent league and was selected in the third round by LG in the 2020 KBO rookie draft.

At LG, he did not get many opportunities and played in 96 games over five seasons until this year, recording a batting average of 0.250 (40 hits in 160 at-bats), 4 home runs, and 23 RBIs.

The Lotte team introduced, "We pursued a trade to strengthen the power of a right-handed infielder with hitting ability. He can compete for the starting infield position, and he is a resource that is available for both defense and pinch-hitting."

Woo Kang-hoon during his time playing for Lotte

Woo Kang-hoon graduated from Yatap High School and was selected in the 5th round by Lotte in the 2021 KBO rookie draft.

He underwent elbow surgery in 2020, immediately after being nominated, and completed his military service on active duty in 2021.

Woo Kang-hoon debuted in the first team last year and left an ERA of 6.00 in 3 games with no wins or losses. This season, he appeared in 1 game against the Incheon SSG Landers on the 24th and allowed 1 run while giving up 2 walks and 1 hit to the body without an out. .

The LG team expected, "As a sidearm pitcher, he has a fast velocity and good breaking ball movement, so there is a lot of potential for growth. He will be helpful to the team in the future."
