Arcane Info

A/N: this is an unfinished section

Ekko is introduced as "little man" (11-12 years old) who gave Vi's gang [Vi(olet), Powder, Mylo, Claggor] the suggestion to rob Jayce's room. Ekko works with Benzo in Benzo's pawn shop, where he is able to showcase his gadgets and skills in mechanics. He is also revealed to be able to eavesdrop on conversations by using gadgets to hear conversations more privately which is seen in the scene where Benzo and Vander are discussing with Sheriff Grayson.

  • Benzo's pawn shop is used for deals, and since Ekko works there, he is able to have an ear on secretive conversations

Deckard kills Benzo, Vander, and Vi's gang, which leaves Ekko devastated. Due to his main caregiver being taken away, and his friends dying (he believes all of them are dead), Ekko's innocence and safety in the undercity was stripped away from him. Ekko was left isolated, emotionally and physically, and had to channel his pain into hope. Growing up, Ekko's hope for Zaun is what guided Ekko into having an optimistic vision for Zaun, wanting to rehabilitate the state of Zaun and Zaunites. He founded the Firelights and is entitled the leader.

  • The Firelights are a community of people who were affected / addicted to shimmer and aim to make a better place for Zaun.

Ekko appears in S2, put in another universe. In this dimension,

  • Powder never became Jinx
  • Vi is dead
  • Vander, Benzo, Claggor, Mylo are alive
  • Vander and Silco are still friends
  • Zaun is thriving

(Unfortunately, TimeBomb is more emphasized than Ekko's own character but I dissected as much as I could). Ekko was given a glimpse of what Zaun could've been. This is essential in Ekko learning how to

in Act III, it’s seen that ekko accidentally travels to another universe, the “perfect universe”

  • powder is still powder. she didn’t become jinx
  • vi is dead.
  • vander, benzo, mylo, and claggor are alive
  • vander and silco are still best friends and never betrayed each other
  • zaun is in its golden era
    • also theory: “taking a leap means leaving a few things behind” and seeing as all the things that died in ekko’s universe is still there, it was there to show that ekko had to move on from what was in the past. there’s a reason why all the dead ones are alive but the alive ones aren’t.

Fun Facts

  • Ekko, in Arcane, views Vi as a significant role model. Vi, being known for her fistfighting, Ekko imitates her movements.
    • "Oh, did Vi kick their asses?" He was excited to learn more about Vi's strength
    • "Oh, she showed me a couple moves to practice. Look." Vi taught Ekko how to fistfight, and he was excited to show how he could do them.
  • Ekko is bisexual, having feelings for Ezreal in the Pulsefire universe.
  • Ekko is voiced by Miles Brown as a child and Reed Shannon as an adult
  • Ekko watched Benzo die in front of him
  • Ekko and the Firelights utilize hoverboards as a form of transportation
  • Ekko dislikes tea
  • The Firelights train minors, some of them appearing very young

Misconceptions

A/N: tbh with you, i'm also wondering why the misconceptions here mostly include jinx

  1. Ekko came back to the original universe for Jinx.
  2. Ekko had sexual intercourse with Jinx after the suicide scene to "fix her"
  3. Ekko is a butch / stud
  4. Ekko is dating Jinx in the main universe

Additional Rants

i hate how the fanbase only views him as jinx's boyfriend. he is more than jinx. ekko did care for jinx,, but imagine how he felt finding out that jinx is taking the side of the man who literally killed his found family. ekko’s character is about MOVING ON AND ACCEPTING CHANGE. this is esp shown in his voicelines in lol. this is also shown on how he was able to accept going to the universe he ACTUALLY belongs in. not only for his people,, but it was his display of acceptance of how his world is. it’s not only and explicitly important for his relationship with jinx but his own character. the most notable quote in that episode being “sometimes taking a leap forward means leaving a few things behind” he IS a good character with potential even without jinx,, it’s just that his episode with powder was meant to show the themes of his personality: accepting change, moving on. hence, “the boy who shattered time” is what makes his character so interesting, he’s able to go to the past but he focuses on how he will can use this time for the future. "Every second matters." "It's not how much time you have, it's how you use it." ekko finally learns to accept his imperfect universe, and creates the z-drive to escape the perfect reality. he finally teams up with jinx (although still not dating in this universe. jinx literally tries to kill herself in front of him and doesnt gaf) but he stops jinx from committing suicide. and they both team up to fight noxus who was having a fight with piltover.

credits to @rchelambr on twitter for this:
ppl might think it’s random considering they didn’t have a natural build up like most canon romantic pairings do. they barely talked. and i think that was a big downfall of their relationship considering they’re supposed to be “enemies to lovers”. with tropes like that, i think tropes like that, you need to be careufl and precise about how you write it. but jinx barely spoke to ekko. 3-4 lines to be exact throughout the whole series. there was also, at least from my perspective, no indication that ekko should have sudden feelings for her after the AU trip considering everything she did to him. (aka, trying to kill him 3 times, killing his friends in front of him, working for the man that killed his father figure, etc.) there was also nothing to indicate that jinx was too worried about where ekko was or how he was doing. i know they have history as friends, but during their reconciliation, i think narratively it would've been a smoother choice if they just became friends again and stayed that way. either that, or they could've at least *SLOWLY worked their way up to being lovers, which the writers failed to do. now the ship just comes off as forced fanservice. unless you've been a fan of timebomb since the start, then you might not be able to see this perspective unfortunately.

Headcannons
