Martlet was a coward.
She didn't know what happened in that throne room. Of course, she knew what /should/ have happened.
She was going to march right up to the king, plead - demand Clover's freedom, and it would all work out
She didn't know what happened, really.
All she knew was that she shouldn't have looked the king the eye, shouldn't have suffocated on that room's constricting, awful air, shouldn't have escaped that horrible place.
Shouldn't have ran away and left an innocent kid to die.
Coward.
The forest's snow picked up as the bird monster walked further into its depths.
Her house's confines had felt more like a prison ever since that day. Everywhere did, the whole underground, but her house especially. As time slipped through her feathers, she felt their walls closing in more and more, inch by inch, until they choked her more than that awful room ever did.
But her boots would never quite carry her far enough to escape it, not this time.
She eventually came across a small clearing amidst the forest's density. She languidly made her way to its center. Even with the barrage of snow battering against her feathers, she held within her a tranquility that she hadn't had in a long, long time.
She lied down. Her idle gaze met the Underground's ceiling.
She wondered, briefly, if the Surface's fresh air would allow her to breathe as she once did. But she knew the price of doing so. It wouldn't have been worth it. It wasn't worth it.
Wasn't worth /him/.
She had a sizable veil of snow hugging her.
It might have been strange, but the thought of snowfall burying someone's dust was always a comforting one to her. Like nature was doing them a kindness, gently blanketing them in a final embrace.
The coward closed her eyes.
Martlet would run away one last time.
martlet tried to let go, to just turn to dust...
...
she couldnt.
there was something at the back of her mind.
something preventing her from letting go
she had been running from it all this time.
her cowardice...
it was by her hand that she left clover for dead, that she didnt even take a stand for him.
but its also only by her hand that she could make things right.
she walked back home and opened a drawer
inside of it was her old royal guard handbook and the DT syringe.
she stared at both
the handbook had the royal insignia on it, the DT syringe glowed a threatening color.
"this is a suicide mission", she thought.
"even if i win, nothing will change", she thought
but regardless of her thoughts, she picked up the syringe.
that feeling at the back of her mind had intensified.
even if she ran away like a coward, its ASGORE who never even stopped to think about letting any fallen humans live in peace.
the story says that it was the humans who killed asriel after crossing the barrier, yes. but clover was completely different! and he wasnt even given a chance.
he tried to help everyone, and his only kill was against an opponent who wouldnt let him live.
she injected herself with determination and fell down as a searing pain went over her body
asgore didnt accept asriel's death, and he's killed six over it.
... why should SHE be the one to accept this outcome?
...
the pain was gone, but martlet felt different.
she got up and examined herself.
not only did she feel strong, but she looked strong too.
she looked in the direction of the castle and took off.
even if she died, she could at least say she stopped running away.
Things were a little odd. Very odd, actually. Clover could've sworn that this wasn't how things were supposed to be...
Although, he didn't disagree with the way things were, no- It just felt... Wrong to be this happy, content with life.
Living out a happy life with his adopted mom on the surface, his memories of his human parents... Well, they seemed hazy. She told him she adopted him when he was young, so he guessed it made sense.
It was a little weird how Martlet would sometimes just... Teleport though, show up in odd places, give him exactly what he wanted whenever he wanted it, even when he just kind of felt like he wanted something.
He shouldn't question it as much as he did. He had an awesome mom, and uh... Well, monsters were magic right? Maybe she was just super magical or whatever...
He just couldn't shake the feeling that there had been some kind of INJUSTICE preformed to achieve this perfect, happy life he now had. His happiness at the expense of someone elses.
Martlet, after breaking the barrier, quite literally remade the world.
There was never a monster war, monsters have always lived on the surface amongst humans.
The experiments never happened, so all the monsters who fell down are completely fine.
Clover was almost made into a monster, but she didn't want to strip him of his humanity.
Martlet uses her near-omnipresence to constantly watch Clover and make sure nothing bad happens to him.
A bully picks on Clover for being adopted by a monster, due to monster-racism now being a thing due to the consequences of her actions?
That bully is turned into a monster without any explanation.
Martlet doesn't alter the world anymore than she already has, because she knows doing so might lead to more problems.
Flowey is in his own personal hell, she created an entire pocket dimension which he is revived and killed over and over again after figuring out what he did to both her and Clover.
Creates a fake Asriel which Flowey is forced to watch live out his life from within his torture-dimension.
"I-I've never felt this way about anyone before, Kanako..." Clover moves towards Kanako, although she shakes her head.
"You're a human, I'm a monster! This can't work, this- We... My dad would never allow-"
Suddenly, Martlet appears between them.
"Hey, what are you guys talking about?" She politely asks as if she hadn't been watching them.
"OH MY GOD, MOM?! W-Where did you come from?!"
"Ahah- Oh uh, don't worry about that! Say, why don't we do something else, like uh - Anything!" Martlet tries to put on her best smile.
"...Your mom kinda scares me sometimes, Clover. It's almost like she can see everything."
kanako and clover are out on a date
martlet's set up a whiteboard in her room and is projecting a bird's eye view of the scenario onto it.
is this creepy? she doesnt think it is. she's just making sure clover's happy and he doesnt fumble.
he messes up a pickup line
she's about to res-
kanako goes in for a hug with a smile on her face
...
martlet's not sure if she should rewrite over the mistake or not.
the date continues, the two have a happy night sharing corny pickup lines and jokes with each other.
"so, clover. how about we go to my place and have some 'fu-
FILE LOADED
minor tweak
"well clover, tonight was fun. cant wait to do this again some other time"
martlet was NOT letting clover have sex... even if she could see that kanako and clover would later get together and have a long loving relationship.
just not yet!
