Ollie

In Chapter 3 of Poppy Playtime, Ollie plays a major role as an unseen entity who communicates with The Player through their Telephone.

Appearance

Currently, Ollie's appearance is unknown as he only communicates with The Player through their phone.

Phone

Personality

Ollie cares about the experiments and helps The Player and Poppy defeat The Prototype to save all the toys he knows from certain death. Despite the harsh conditions in Playtime Co., he remains upbeat and joyful.

He has extensive knowledge about Playcare and guides The Player through each location. He is aware of the threats in Playcare, particularly CatNap, and informs The Player on how to deal with them. This suggests that he has extensively studied the area's threats.

The Phone in Project: Playtime

The phone in Chapter 3: Deep Sleep, made its debut during the second phase of the multiplayer spin-off title, Project: Playtime. At that time, it had no use. The phone is gifted to the player by a mysterious entity. Given the context of Chapter 3, the phone is heavily associated with Ollie, implying that Ollie is the entity that contacts the player. Furthermore, Ollie delivers a brief speech in the trailer for Phase 3 of Project. He refers to himself as a 'wayward plaything,' suggesting that he is one of the many experiments conducted by Playtime Co.

"Compassion is the discarded gem of the forsaken, a relic of innocence left behind like a misfit toy! Call me a forsaken soul, but I am but a wayward plaything cast aside and lost in the depths of abandonment, seeking purpose in the shadows."

Interesting Facts and/or Theories

  • Chapter 3 provides little information about Ollie, leaving The Player to wonder who or what he is. Some assume he is an orphan who lived in Playcare and avoided experimentation, making him one of the few survivors of The Hour of Joy.
    • During the Hour of Joy, CatNap may have protected some children from the hostile experiments. It is possible that these children were subsequently raised by the experiments, which could explain Ollie's familiarity with Playcare and CatNap. It is possible that some of the children, including Ollie, were infants during the Hour of Joy, as evidenced by the presence of cribs in Home Sweet Home. They may have been raised by either the more intelligent and caring experiments or by other children who became teenagers within the ten-year period.
      • However, this poses some problems:
The Hour of Joy occurred 10 years ago in the current timeline. Food is considered an issue if Ollie was human, as it has been relatively rare in the chapters so far, aside from cannibalism. Additionally, the voice heard in-game sounds like that of a child under 10 years old, which is inconsistent with Ollie's age of at least 15-20 years old if he were still alive and human. It is possible that Ollie is also a living toy, which would explain his child-like voice. Not to mention the rate of a toy surviving The Hour of Joy is higher compared to being a human.
    • It's assumed that Ollie is likely a part of the Advanced Security System mentioned in one of the VHS Tapes of Chapter 1 by Leith Pierre.
      • This is further established by the fact that Ollie's status is unknown - whether he is human or not. He knows the systems and workings of the factory well and is always helping Poppy and the player. He warns of any dangers using premeditated words to abide by the factory policies (such as 'ouchies' or 'lost body parts') and remains distant whenever needed.[1]
      • Plus, his name is in bright green, just like the tape in Chapter 1 that had the security.
  • There is a theory that Ollie is actually The Prototype. This is based on a tape in Chapter 3 that shows 1006 replicating voices that he hears.
    • It is also theorized that Ollie is responsible for the mysterious messages in Project: Playtime. This is due to his connection with the phone in Chapter 3: Deep Sleep, which is given to the player in Project: Playtime by an entity (who may be The Prototype) that uses the tapes to communicate in the game.
    • Fans have noticed that Ollie and The Mimic from Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach - RUIN share a similar concept. Both characters contact their respective players through a communications device. In RUIN, The Mimic uses a character named Gregory's voice to trick the player into freeing it. There is a theory that The Prototype is doing the same thing but with Ollie's voice. This suggests that the two games may share a similar plot twist, assuming that Ollie is The Prototype. However, it is more likely that this is a coincidence since both titles were developed around the same time.
      • While both Ollie and Gregory sound almost similar, they have different voice actors.
    • Poppy and Kissy know Ollie and he told them about The Player. However, they may not have met Ollie in person, so they may not know that he is The Prototype.
  • Ollie was originally going to be replaced with an older man called 'Ace' before Chapter 3's release.[2]
