First Day at Arc, Freshman Intro
.
You get out of the car in front of a massive brick building. An American flag flies high on a pole in front of it. Somewhat lower than that flag is a yellow and black flag. You can't see anything on it other than the colors, but you already know that it is the school's flag. The school is Joan of Arc High School.
You close your eyes and hope everything goes okay. Then you start walking toward the building. You have heard about this school--lots of people have. This school had some big things happen a long time ago, before you were ever born, and it is also in the same school district with Independence High School. Everyone with a TV knows about that school. Joan of Arc, or Arc as some people call it, also had name recognition for the times it was mentioned by Independence students--the schools were rivals, after all.
The walk to the building seems to take forever. Maneuvering to go inside the building goes quickly, however. Students are here and there, mostly standing around in groups. You are not part of any of those. This is your first day as a student of this school and you just want to avoid any trouble.
You head straight to your first period class. You already have your schedule and you know where all of your classes are because a woman working in the administrative office gave you a tour on the same day that you got your schedule. The woman said that it would help to make things go smoother. You see for yourself that it is true. The only thing you want to do is sit down and wait for someone to start teaching.
Before you know what is happening, you bump into someone. Actually, the person backed into you while you were passing by and you could not avoid them. Even so, the person looks at you as if it was all your fault, as if you did it on purpose.
You stop in the hallway apologetically. The person you bumped, or else bumped you, is a very pretty auburn-haired girl wearing a navy blue blazer as if it isn't hot out and as if the school is some prep charter school or something. She seems to wait for you to speak.
Do you:
Turn and walk back outside the school
or
Have a conversation with the girl
