Yuzu

Context

  • 4th March, 2024: Yuzu emulator ceased operations permanently, following a legal settlement with Nintendo. In the settlement, Yuzu's developers agreed to pay Nintendo $2.4 million in damages and halt all activities related to emulating the Nintendo Switch and its associated services.
  • The announcement of the shutdown was made via the official Yuzu Twitter/X account, declaring an immediate discontinuation of the emulator and its support for Citra. Subsequently, the team took down their code repositories, closed their Patreon accounts and Discord servers, and eventually shuttered their websites.
  • Nintendo had filed a lawsuit against Yuzu in late February 2024, alleging that the emulator had caused substantial revenue losses by facilitating widespread piracy, citing instances such as the pre-launch download of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which Nintendo claimed had surpassed one million downloads.
  • The Yuzu team issued a final message, concurrently facing exposure for their own misconduct.
