‎‏‏

"what the fuck are paraphilias?"

paraphilia is a term to describe weird, odd, or eccentric attractions.
this isn't limited to just sexual attraction, but all types of attraction.
it can range from sexual to aesthetic.

though, it was known as an "abnormal sexual desire/arousal, typically
involving dangerous or extreme activities" (as by google's definition.)
for many years.
‎‏‏

‎‏‏

"why do paraphilias happen?"

they can happen for many reasons, there is no one single reason
as to why they happen, and, may in fact happen for no reason.

a few articles suggest that childhood trauma, grooming, etc. are
linked to paraphilias.

other articles also suggest they happen because of
hormonal / brain chemical imbalance in the brain.
‎‏‏

‎‏‏

"is it a disorder?"

if one is referring to the paraphilia itself; an odd attraction
then no, it is not.

it is only characterized as a disorder when the
being who is experiencing these attractions are actively
distressed by it. or if it causes psychological/physical harm
to another.
‎‏‏

‎‏‏

"can paraphilias be treated?"

if referring to the attractions, no. a therapist/counselor cannot
simply "treat" or "cure" an attraction. they can only try to make the
paraphiliac accept themselves and see themselves in a positive light.

if referring to the disorder, yes. as stated above, therapy/counselling
helps those with paraphilias to accept themselves.

psychotherapy (specifically cognitive behavioral therapy) is a great way
for one to start getting treatment.
there's also medication one may be prescribed, such as... (but not limited to)
antidepressant's, anti-androgens, phenothiazines, anxiolytics, GnRH, and/or mood
stabilizers.

it should also be noted that a paraphilic disorder can only be treated if
the being that has it wants to be treated. they shouldn't force treatment if
they don't wish for it.

‎‏‏

‎‏‏

"are all paraphiliacs a pedophile/zoophile/necrophile?"

no.

there are tons of different paraphilias, and isn't limited to pedophilia, zoophilia, or necrophilia.
those are just the most known and more stigmatized ones.
‎‏‏

‎‏‏

"do paraphiliacs think it's okay to assault/rape/groom/etc?"

despite this being a common stereotype, it's only a select few... a large majority of those who
are paraphiliac, are actually against contact regarding anything that is illegal.

even though there are some that are pro-contact, that doesn't mean all of them commit
crimes, think it's okay to commit crimes, or any of the like.

‎‏‏

"ok, so then what's your belief?"

my personal belief, the being writing this, is that...
attraction shouldn't be stigmatized, no matter how weird it is.

i don't fully agree with those who act on beastiality, have relationships with children, or commits crimes...
but, at the same time, civilians (like myself), can't do anything about it.

and in addition, there's also places where beastiality, having relationships with children, etc. are legal.
and also gray-areas in the law systems. (ex: AoC being different for both beings in a long distant relationship)

basically; i'm against acting on illegality, and if i know somebeing that is acting on their pedo/zoo/necrophilia,
i personally wouldn't want to hear about it...

‎‏‏

in summary

it's nobeing's place to judge another just for what they're attracted to.
let others live in peace without judgement.

also fun fact,
lgbtqia+ was also known as a paraphilia at one point.
