- using 'narcissist' as anything unrelated to npd
although narcissistic isn't officially classified as a word used strictly for npd (only being a second definition as seen below), many narcissists want to change
it to be a term only for npd. narcissist is being used in a way that makes it an insult so it becomes hard to distinguish people with npd from being just this insult, so those with npd face a lot of ableism from it.
while many may not agree with us or anyone else who wants to change the meaning of the word narcissist, we believe it is the best decision to destigmatize npd and remove the negative connotation that's forced upon us and our disorder as a whole.
- the term narcissistic abuse
this is a very controversial point and will mention abuse, please read with caution
. as a disclaimer, we are not targeting any victims of abuse, rather we are trying to educate people who use this term, victim or not.
why we believe narcissistic abuse is a harmful term is very similar to the first point, as narcissist should be changed to be just a term for npd. if we were to change it as such then narcissistic abuse would become a term that demonizes and categorizes
abuse based on mental disorders which is extremely harmful to any disorder that can be targeted.
just like the first point, this term is officially recognized but rather than to change it we fight for it to be not used, as if it were changed then it would pose a threat to people with npd (the stereotype of us being abusers).
we encourage people who use the term narcissistic abuse to use other terms like emotional abuse, mental abuse or any category that would accurately describe the abusive situation.
