Ponytown guide!

Hi! Welcome to the general Ponytown guide! Here you'll learn about how to play/navigate menus, about etiquette, and nametags or statuses you may see! Do be aware this contains a couple curses, and this is also pretty wordy!

Table of contents:

.

How to play!

Tips for when you are completely new to playing/actions!! (The tips relating to move and interaction binds are PC only, sorry, I play on PC exclusively.)

.
.

Walking is either WASD or the arrow keys, of course!

.

To sit, press X, and to lay down, press X again! Press C (x2) to revert to sitting or standing again. Of course, you could always just walk a bit to snap back into standing! To fly (if you have wings) just press C while standing!

.

Press E to interact with your environment by picking stuff up! You can press E again to eat edible things, too. This includes flowers and leaves, so be careful if you want to keep them!

.

Press B to boop! This too can interact with the environment, as you can boop to pick stuff up, or at night, you can turn off the flame lanterns scattered around the map!

.

Press H to flip your head back and forth!

.

O, P, and L are camera related functions! O zooms the camera out, while P zooms the camera in! L is to center your camera!

.

The buttons 1 through 0, including the - and the = keys, can be given different actions. The gear at the bottom of the screen in your action bar can help with changing the actions.

.

If you want to leave, click the settings gear in the top right then press the Leave button.

.
.

A chunk of the F keys do things within Ponytown. Hit them again to re-enable the things they may disable.

F2 disables all chat bubbles. This makes it so you won't see anybody's messages, and so you can't create chat messages at all.

F3 disables only public chat bubbles, so you'll only see messages (outside of whispers/party chat) from your friends onscreen, but you won't be able to speak in public chat. If you have whispering enabled for everyone, then even people you don't have friended will be able to whisper you when you have public chat off.

F4 enables seeing through obstacles, making things like the tree leaves see through.

.

F5 reloads the page! Be careful with that.

.

F6 will disable the UI, making all icons on your screen like the friendslist, open chat button, etc. invisible. The only things that remain visible when UI is turned off is the chat button and the settings in the top right, which remains faintly visible.

F9 disables the ability to double click to look. Essentially if you move your mouse and double click, your pony will look in that direction when double click to look is enabled.

F10 disables map key bindings. Map key bindings refers to key bindings unique to your party island map -- this unique map is a map you have control over (unless you're in a party and you're not the leader) at anytime. You can edit the map to your liking. This map is accessed by heading toward the dock on the left side of the map and entering the big boat.

F11 makes the game full screen.

F12 opens inspect element.

.
.

Press J to quick-open your edit menu!

.

The Preview

The box with a pony in it is called the preview.

.

Above the preview there's the name box, with a pony face to the right inside the name box to insert emojis.

.

To the right of that, there's the new button which lets you create a new pony on the spot. Be sure to press the Save button if you already have a pony in progress and want to keep it!!

.

To the right of the new button is a downwards facing arrow, which opens up your pony menu. Within the pony menu you can see how many ponies you've made, what ponies are in your recycling bin, and check what hashtags you have in use! You can also choose what order you want them displayed in, such as new-old, by name from A-Z (which is what default refers to. Symbols go above A!), and recently played. And of course, you can also look through ponies to edit them.

.

And last but not least, the reddish button at the right end of the boxes above the preview is the delete button! Ponies that are 'deleted' are not immediately gone forever, and you can still go back to the recycling bin to check whether you want to truly delete them or not!

.

.

The symbols from left to right below the pony preview are:

The zoom feature, allowing you to fully zoom in your pony (up to x6) to get an eye for the little details! Alternatively, you could zoom all the way out in the edit menu to check how your pony looks from afar.

.

The background changer! You can change the background to any color you wish.

.

The name hider, which will hide the name above your avatar so you can focus solely on creation! Click again to re-show your name.

.

The head flip button! This flips your pony's head back and forth each time you click it. The H button works for this in edit menu as well by the way!

.

The flip preview button! This will flip your whole avatar.

.

The paint palette, click this to open a paint palette for you to drop colors into to save for later! The three buttons at the top right of the pain palette tab is how you clear the paint palette tab of all colors quickly. Click the paint palette button again to hide it.

.

The undo and redo buttons! These are pretty self explanatory.

.

.

The Editing Part!

Within the actual editing stuff on the right of the preview, there are a variety of options to choose from. The tabs at the top are for different areas of creation, but the body tab holds a lot of important stuff.

.

There's the show social tab, which will make your social media connected (such as discord, github, patreon, etc...) visible on your profile! The profile refers to that tab that appears at the top left of your screen if you click a pony. This means that when somebody clicks on you, your social will be displayed directly below your name!

.

The description tab allows you to add hashtags to your creations so you could quick search them! I.e: you could search #Red and any ponies tagged with that will pop up in the pony and hashtag menu! But not only can you use hashtags, you could just make a short description too! This description is only visible to you.

.

.

The export menu has a lot of options.

The </> menu allows you to either export the pony you have "open", or all the ponies you have, which makes them into .ptc files. These files can then be imported to the event servers! The GIF button will allow you to download a gif of the pony preview. The PNG button gives you multiple PNG images of your avatar going through any animation cycle active, frame by frame, which includes blinking. The button with a down arrow and a x[number] button is how zoomed you want your gif or PNG to be. The gear symbol has even more options for how you want your GIF or PNG to look!

.

*The effects tab has a variety of "effects" for your avatar, such as blushing, hearts, etc. You can mix and match, or have all of them active at the same time (the sparkles is for magic though, so be sure to have a horn on your pony if you want to use it)! These effects such as the hearts and blushing will effect how your GIF/PNGs come out.

.

The animation tab allows you to pause any animations active (this does not include blinking!). It also allows you to cycle through all the frames of the animation you have chosen, which is selected via the button/tab that says "stand" with an arrow next to it. But keep in mind, you can only look through the individual frames of the animation by pausing it!

.

.

The advanced options aren't too daunting, but they can be a bit complicated to a complete newbie. That's okay!

.

The always respawn at spawn point means that if this box is checked, you will always respawn in the Spawn square you initially spawned in upon playing for the first time. If it's not checked, the next time you re-enter the game, your pony will be in the exact spot that it was in last. This changes from avatar to avatar, so if you were in one spot as Pony A, that spot won't necessarily translate to Pony B unless you changed into Pony B while sitting in Pony A's spot. You could have two avatars with spawn points across the map from each other!

.

Allow custom outlines refers to well, the outlines of your pony! If this is unchecked, you won't be able to change the outline color of say, your pony's hair! But if it is checked, that will cause secondary boxes to pop up next to every single color option box. These secondary boxes will then have locks next to them, referred to in the menu as locked outlines. Unlock these outlines to change their color as you please! Do keep in mind, this will not be the only place you see locks -- locked outlines will only ever refer to the box to the right of the main color boxes.

If you have the allow custom outlines box checked, then a slider will appear below it. This slider is to change the darkness of the locked outlines. The slider goes from 0-100, with 0 making the outline match the primary color (the color within the outlines), and 100 making the outlines completely black. The box to the right of the slider has a number showing what darkness your locked outline is at currently, and the arrows will allow you to move up by individual numbers. The circular arrow just makes it revert back to the number it's set to by default, which is 50.

.

Below these is the background box, which is another way you can change the background color. If you leave it locked it remains in the default color, and if you change it, that will change the background of the preview for that specific avatar.

.

The locks you'll see elsewhere will be for symmetry. You can unlock things like, for example, your pupils; making it so you can have two differently colored pupils, or so you can have pupils of two different sizes, etc. Have fun and play around with it!

.
.
.

.

Etiquette!

These aren't necessarily strictly enforced rules, rather guidelines you could follow if you're not sure/new!

.

One!

Be nice!

The most obvious one, I know, but be nice! Be polite! Don't talk rudely to someone else (of course, this is not counted if they were rude to you first)! And if you genuinely weren't aware, don't talk sexually to someone you don't know (referring to within the 18+ server, because that's weird, even if it's 18+). Don't force someone to interact with you either! If someone isn't interacting back, just move on!

.
.
.

Tip!

Something good to keep in mind are statuses! Some people may use the main statuses like :green_circle:/:crescent_moon:/:no_entry: to mean different things, but the only ones that are universal no matter who it is are the :performing_arts: Looking for Roleplay and the :speech_balloon: Looking for Chat icons. If someone has one of those two statuses, try talking to them!

.
.
.

Two!

Sit a respectable distance away unless given permission if they're a stranger to you! Sub-rule to number 2. : People don't really like it if you randomly go afk on top of them.

Generally speaking, people don't like it if you get too close and personal. This could mean sitting too close, sitting on top of them or behind them at random. Sit a respectable distance away unless given permission if they're a stranger to you! And if you do end up on top of somebody, don't be surprised or insulted if they move away, it's likely nothing against you!

Some people make fun of the desire for personal space on this game, which I really don't get. Even if one could claim "the touch isn't real" the annoyance or discomfort very much could be. And before you ask, no, feeling uncomfortable when someone you don't know sits too close, even in 2D simulation, isn't delusional or weird. It's honestly pretty mean to make fun of someone when they tell you you make them uncomfortable.

.
.
.

Tip!

Try clicking people to see if they have a patreon or github linked to their profile (that tab that appears in the top left)! Typically this will lead to some form of bio that you could read!

.
.
.

Three!

Don't randomly friend or invite people to a party.

As said above, don't randomly send a stranger a friend request, typically these may lead to your request being ignored. Same goes for randomly inviting someone to a party. People aren't usually too keen on adding people they've never even talked to.

If you genuinely want to get to know said person, try striking up a conversation! If they don't respond, it may not be that they're ignoring you, they may be offtab or afk! Whispering to them may be your next bet, but if they don't respond to that either, move on! They may be too busy to chat, or may not want to talk to strangers. That's alright, as said previously, it's likely nothing against you!

.
.
.

Tip!

Keep in mind that people may be afk or offtab doing other things while on here! Generally speaking, you should assume they aren't actively ignoring you!

.
.
.

Four!

Be sure to check other people's names! They may hold valuable information.

As said above, people may put information in their name! It could range from stuff like "Playing [insert game here]" to a nametag! These tags will let you know if the person you're trying to approach is busy, not looking to be chatted with, etc.!

.
.
.

Tip!

One of the ways you can show people you like their avatar is by crowning them! This is either done by putting a crown emoji in public chat and booping someone or walking under them so your speech bubble has the crown floating above their head; alternatively you could whisper a crown emoji to them! This is frequently done in Ponytown as a show of appreciation for someone's avatar.

.
.
.

Five!

Don't rapidfire boop or sit on top of someone. And don't spam the word hi!

It may annoy others to hear the word hi thrown at them multiple times in a short period, same goes for sitting on/booping someone! If someone isn't responding, your best bet is to move on. As said previously, the person may not have something against you specifically!!

.
.
.

.

Dictionary!

.

Name tags!

Below are some tags you may see on here! Don't antagonize people for certain acronyms or statuses, that makes you look like an asshole, not the other way around. Don't be surprised if antagonizing people leads to you being blocked or snapped at -- quite frankly, you should be expecting those reactions if you're choosing to do so.

Also, I use avatar to refer to someone's pony. Could be called skin, morph, whatever, but I prefer using the word avatar.

.

Interaction based! .

Int: Meaning interact! This person wants you to interact with them. May have something else in the name to indicate they want a certain group to interact, such as a shared fandom!

.

C+H: Meaning Cuddle+Hide! This person is okay with cuddles or hiding behind them. If you're still unsure, you can whisper to ask/check!

.

W2I: Meaning Whisper to Interact! Basically, in order to chat with this person, use whispers! Could also be spelled Whisp2I, Whisp2Int, W2Int, etc. This is because in the tab tray of the browser, whispering will cause a notification! It will also cause the open chat icon (the icon with two touching chat bubbles) to change color if they have the chat closed! It could also partially be because they feel more comfortable in whispers, or have public chat off -- meaning if you're not friended/mutuals, they won't be able to see anything you say outside of whispers.

.

DNI: Meaning Do Not Interact! This is frequently followed up with a suffix. If you see someone with this status in their name, leave them alone! Depending on the suffix and whether or not you're friends with that person, you may be exempt from the DNI status!

.

IWC: Meaning Interact With Caution! Basically do what it says on the tin, as the person with this in their name might be in a bad mood! They could also be using this tag for another reason. A similar one is IWCare! This may also have extra letters such as IWSC (interact with some caution) or IWEC (interact with extreme caution)!

.

Avatar based! .

MV: Meaning My Version. Basically meaning that the avatar said person is using is based off a character but said character's appearance has been changed according to personal headcanons or whatnot.

.

RMK: Meaning Remake! Essentially, the avatar they're using is a remake of an older version of the avatar. A possible variant of this could be V1, V2, V3, so on. Typically though, as far as I'm concerned V1 and V2 are more connected to ULTRAKILL than anything, so I'm not sure if those V(number) tags are something people actually use to reference different versions of an avatar.

.

WIP: Meaning Work In Progress! This means the avatar they're in isn't completed yet!

.

DNC: Meaning Do Not Copy! This will also appear in the category below, as this acronym may have multiple meanings! It's unfortunately necessary to put this sometimes. Be nice, don't steal other's hard work! If you're looking to use their avatar as inspiration, ask!! (However, don't expect it to be a yes!!)

.

IRL: Meaning In Real Life! Either this person is an IRL of a character from a media, and views themself as said character, or they're using an avatar literally based off their irl selves!

.

CLink/CL: Meaning Coping Link! From what I know, Coping Link is the act of comforting oneself by identifying as someone/something, as a coping mechanism. Here's an informative caard. Essentially, the person is likely using their coping link avatar for a reason!

.

Kin: What it says on the tin! This person kins the character in the avatar they're using! You could probably find more information online, but here's something!

Fictkin: Meaning FictionKin! This person's kin subject is a fictional character! Use the link from the tag above to learn more! (Please do excuse me, because I don't know a lot about kinning.)

.

Other! .

Agere: Meaning AgeRegressed! Here is a helpful caard about age regression. A couple similar terms are Petre, pet regression, or agedre, age dreaming.

.

Comf.: Meaning comfort! Likely refers to the character the person is dressed as being a comfort character. You may also see CC, meaning Comfort Character exactly. Could also simply be an avatar that brings comfort.

.

Vent: Means exactly what it says on the tin! The avatar this is attached to is either an avatar used specifically for venting feelings, or created as a vent.

.

These are all similar, so I'm putting them into one: SV/NV/Mute: Mute is exactly what you think it is, but SV means Semi-Verbal and NV means Non-Verbal! Essentially, this person might not speak "aloud" in chat, and may either stick to whispers, or using actions and emojis. Or both! Be respectful.

.

TT or TD: Meaning Touch Trigger or Touch Discomfort. People don't frequently use these these days, but you may see them around here and there. The respectful thing to do is keep a bit of space!

.

DNT: Meaning Do Not Touch. Similar to the above acronyms. May be followed up with suffixes. Same as above, the respectful thing to do is give them a bit of space.

.

TC: Meaning Touch Comfort! Basically, this person feels comfort when being touched.

.

CT/CD: Meaning Cover or Crowd Trigger or Discomfort. May be followed up with suffixes. Be respectful and keep your space!

.

DNC: This one can have multiple meanings! This may mean Do Not Cover or Do Not Crowd.

.
.

Prefixes and suffixes used in tags!

.

As stated above, these are prefixes and suffixes that may accompany some tags!

.

Prefixes! These come before the tag! Typically these may be words, but there's also a couple abbreviations! .
.

Fandom...: It refers to the fandom of the media the character their avatar is in! This typically takes place in the form of Fandom DNI. Basically, people from the fandom shouldn't actively look to interact if DNI follows! There could also be Fandom INT, meaning this person is actively encouraging the fandom to interact!

.

DBLs...: Meaning Doubles! Typically followed by DNI. Essentially, this person may be an IRL or Kin, and doesn't want doubles of their kin/IRL subject to interact!

.

RP: Meaning RolePlay! May be followed by DNI or Int! .

.

Suffixes! These come after the tag! .

...UF: Meaning Unless Friends! Typically will follow something like DNI, forming DNIUF -- Do Not Interact Unless Friends. Basically, if they're not in your friends list, leave them be! Some people may put in their bio that DNIUF won't mean anyone friended, rather people they consider friends beyond being mutuals. If you're not sure, whisper to ask!

.

...UC(F): Meaning Unless Close (Friends)! Basically, whatever status this follows will only be negated if you're close, such as DNIUC! If you're not sure you're close enough to the person to be counted, either ask (but do use caution when doing so, they may not be in a good mood!), or steer clear of them for the time being!

.

...UP: Meaning Unless Partner(s), but could very well also mean Unless Party! Typically follows DNI to make DNIUP. Basically, if it's used to mean unless partner(s), steer clear of them unless you are partners! If used to mean party, avoid talking to them if you're not in their party! Either way, it may be best to leave them be for the time being! If unsure, ask, but as always, use caution when doing so!

(A variant to this that could be used but I haven't seen much of if any at all, is ...ubf/ugf, basically meaning unless boyfriend or girlfriend. Another variant that would only be used among systems is ...ups, meaning unless partner system(s). Same concept as with the partner suffix!)

.

...UID: Meaning Unless I Do! Basically, unless said person specifically interacts with you, leave them alone!

.

....U[whatever follows]: Meaning Unless....etc.! Most typically seen in combination with DNI, making DNIU -- Do Not Interact Unless. What follows the unless may often be a name, but it could also be a word, etc. Unless whatever comes after is something you know is about you, such as DNIU (your name), then leave them alone!

.

.

System specific tags!

Basically what it says on the tin, these are tags specific to systems! Don't fakeclaim them. Fakeclaiming (saying they're not really a system, etc.) is first of all, incredibly rude, and secondly, incredibly unproductive on top of unprovable. You aren't getting anyone anywhere, and you're not "protecting real systems" by doing so. You're just being an asshole. Nobody owes you any access to medical history to "prove" it. Nobody owes you anything for the sake of avoiding being invalidated.

ANYWAYS. Onto the tags! Treat these people like any other person!

Also here is a caard for better explanations on the information seen here!

.

SYS (could also be sys or Sys): Meaning System! Basically, the user is using this tag to tell you they're a system! There may be a multitude of reasons they're making this known, but typically you should assume it's because multiple alters play this game, and even if they're using the same account they're not always the same person. Typically from what I have seen, the sys tag is used to denote different alters, meaning that if two different avatars have the sys tag in their name, it should generally be assumed they're different alters.

DID or OSDD: Referring to the dissociative disorders that being a system stems from! These are acronyms meaning Dissociative Identity Disorder or Other Specified Dissociative Disorder. However, not every OSDD diagnosis equals being a system! From what I know, OSDD 1a and 1b are what form systems, but I'm welcome to being corrected! (Also please excuse me if the wording sounds off!!)

.

Alter: Meaning Alter! Basically, this means the person playing is an alter of a system!

.

Introj. or Intrj.: Meaning Introject! This refers to a type of alter whose origin comes from a source outside the system, meaning they are introjected into it. Treat them like you would any other person -- keep in mind, they are still a real person, and are not automatically 1:1 to source.

.

Fict./Fictive: Meaning well, Fictive! This is a type of introject wherein the source is typically a media. Typically sources are a fictional character! These are still real people, so don't approach them with the expectation that they'll act exactly like source. And don't be weird to them!! They're a person.

.

Factive: I haven't seen many on here, but this is a type of introject where typically the alter's source is a real world person! Don't treat them weirdly about it -- nobody chooses their source.

.

Faitive/Fucktive: I haven't seen many on here, but this is an introject with mixed origin sources, being a combination of fictive and factive.

Splitroj.: Meaning Splitroject! Basically, this is an introject alter with multiple sources amalgamated into one person.

.
.
.

.
And that about wraps up this guide! I know it's more of a dictionary than a guide to interaction, but still, thank you for reading!
