Spoon.2di vol.117 Issue — Slam Days Interview Translation

We conducted an interview with Rui, Q, and Shizuru, who graced the cover of this issue of Slam Days! Enjoy a special interaction between them where you can catch a glimpse of the strong bond between the three of them.

If we had a kotatsu, you'd probably just end up under it all day, getting drunk and end up passing out. We don’t need a kotatsu with floor heating. It’d be way too hot, I’d probably get a headache. Ehh. Then how about we have some drinks in the kotatsu while playing games next time?

Interviewer: —You three often spend your time playing together at the hideout.

Rui: Playing together…? It's just you two butting in all the time. Quit bothering me.

Shizuru: Okay, maybe we don’t actually play games together that often, but if sharing the same space counts, then yeah, I’d say it does.

Q: Shizuru's too weak to even be a good opponent for me~. I’m just playing with Rui for fun.

Rui: Nobody asked you. Seriously, you're so annoying.

Q: Really? Rui’s always whining about how NPCs or online opponents are trash, boring, or whatever. I’m actually making his gaming experience better. He should be grateful!

Shizuru: I mostly just watch, but unlike Lance, Q can handle any kind of game. He’s good at everything and often matches Rui’s level.

Rui: Well, I end up winning anyway.

Q: It’s obvious you’re cheating. The way Rui’s characters move is just ridiculous. You’ve either modified your controller or messed with the game data, didn't you?

Rui: It's not cheating. It's the fruit of my training. Besides, games are serious business. Cheaters don’t deserve to play.

Shizuru: Look at that. Rui gets surprisingly serious when it comes to games!

Q: It’s a shared space, so deal with it. If you don’t wanna be disturbed that badly, why don’t you just lock yourself in your room forever?

Rui: When my room’s display is completely filled with unfinished missions, I’m forced to use the one in the living room. [1]

Shizuru: Oh, so that’s why? I thought you only come out when you're feeling lonely…

Rui: Don't be ridiculous.

Q: Hahaha! It's like Shizuru when he wants some attention!

Shizuru: Huh, am I really like that? But I do like watching you guys have fun in the living room while I drink.

Rui: We’re trying to play seriously, but then you get drunk, start yelling, and cheer loudly. It’s so distracting.

Q: Shizuru usually just watches at first, but once he gets drunk, he suddenly goes, ‘I wanna play too,’ even though he’s really bad at it.

Shizuru: Hahaha… You don't say?

Rui: Next thing you know, he gets beaten and has to deal with some kind of penalty for a whole week.

Shizuru: It’s so predictable, it’s scary… If you’re gonna roast me for being a beginner, can’t you at least take it easy?

Interviewer: —If you could switch places with anyone for a day, who would it be and what would you want to do?

Rui: ……………..No one.

Q: You really thought that one through, huh?

Shizuru: Hey, what happened to our leader who was just thinking about us a moment ago?

Rui: We never had anyone like that. So, which one of us would you wanna swap places with?

Q: The ‘switching places’ thing or whatever… I'm already so sick of it being a daily thing, but if I had to choose I'd pick Rui.

Rui: In your dreams.

Q: You don’t get a say in this. I’d switch with you for a day, then go back to being myself. I’d spend all your money in one day, it’d be so fun! Don’t worry, I’m a pro at this switching thing.

Shizuru: Right, if I could switch with Leader, I’d have an unlimited supply of alcohol and live my dream life!

Rui: This is stupid. Too bad all the money and day-trading info are locked down with top-tier security. Even Q can't open it.

Q: Huh? Rui, of all people, challenging me? Now that’s funny.

Shizuru: Come on, don't mess around with other people's money!

Rui and Q: You're the one to talk.

Shizuru: Ehh…

Q: So, what about you, Shizuru?

Shizuru: I mean, Rui’s wealth is tempting, but… I’d pick Lance. Getting smarter sounds amazing, doesn’t it? I’d love to experience that “eureka” moment myself.

Q: You wanna be Lance? That’s so weird. And let’s not forget, even if you switch with Lance, you’d still just be you, Shizuru.

Rui: You’ll just end up dealing with all his nonsense. It’s way too annoying to bother with.

Shizuru: Well, if it’s just for a day, I wouldn’t worry about Q... Being an investigator sounds kinda cool, doesn't it? Doing stuff like catching cheaters in the act sounds kinda fun. Plus, I’m pretty good at getting people to talk.

Rui: I don’t even wanna hear about other people’s petty love quarrels… What’s so fun about that?

Shizuru: I don't mind listening to those kinds of stuff. It’s more of wanting to help someone in need, y’know?

Q: Lance does that stuff a lot, huh~? I guess it’s fine for the client, but it’s gotta be a pain for the person being accused of cheating… Think he made accidental enemies from it?

Shizuru: You're no different either…

Rui: Like that'd happen. Even if you switched with Lance, you'd be drunk in no time. A detective can’t function properly while wasted.

Shizuru: I mean, if I became Lance, I don’t think I’d drink that much. ...I think.

Q: ….And Rui?

Rui: Having to deal with sharing my own body sounds like a pain, and there's no way I wanna be a drunkard…

Q: I couldn't agree more.

Rui: So, I guess I can't imagine being anyone other than me.

Shizuru: I kinda wish you’d be more aware of the good qualities of your friends.

Q: You're so heartless Rui~!

Interviewer: —Now that winter is almost here, what are the three things you absolutely need for the winter season?

Rui: A floor heating system.

Q: Me too! It's so nice and quiet, and I hate the loud, hot air from air conditioners, so this is just what I need.

Shizuru: And it doesn't make your throat dry. When we decided to move in, the first thing we agreed on was getting underfloor heating, right?

Rui: Yeah, this place used to be in a concrete building, and they told us it would get really cold in the winter. We could’ve kept the air condition running, but with all the equipment in here it’s much better to have less dust around.

Shizuru: I thought you were worried about your health, but you're more worried about your game....

Q: Thanks to that, I can stay comfy no matter the time of day or night.

Shizuru: Speaking of which, Lance was sneezing and shivering from the cold when he woke up the other day. He blamed it on Q, but did you have anything to do with it?

Q: I didn’t. Lance just covers himself with so many blankets, so I put them all away, and he slept in lighter clothes. Honestly, I’m bothered by the thick blankets too, because they make me sweat and feel gross when I wake up.

Rui: It’s weird that Lance feels cold and Q feels hot, even though they share the same body.

Q: I don't know. Maybe ask Chaosism~?

Shizuru: So, for Rui and Q, it's floor heating, and for Lance, it's thick blankets, right?

Q: Let me guess what Shizuru can’t live without!

Rui: I bet it's alcohol again.

Shizuru: Exactly! While you guys are talking about heaters and blankets like shut-ins, the best thing in winter is drinking hot sake in the cold winter.

Q: Yep, it was alcohol. I'm starting to get a little tired with this same old answer by now.

Shizuru: What I really want is a kotatsu.

Rui: Absolutely not. You're still not over that?

Shizuru: No matter how many times Leader rejects me, I'm not giving up!

Rui: If we had a kotatsu, you'd probably just end up under it all day, getting drunk and end up passing out.

Q: We don’t need a kotatsu with floor heating. It’d be way too hot, I’d probably get a headache.

Shizuru: Ehh. Then how about we have some drinks in the kotatsu while playing games next time?

Q: I wonder what kind of game Shizuru’s got in store for us next time~?

Shizuru: Huh? So if I bring a game that I can’t lose, you’d consider getting a kotatsu?

Rui: If there was one.

Translation Note:

[1] 共有スペース means Shared Space in English but it feels really off when we're talking about it in a sentence English-wise. So I took some liberties and referred it as their living room (cause that's where they're mostly referring to anyway)
