why and how it's harmful
npd romanticization harms narcissists because it relies on stereotypes forced upon us based on our symptoms. when it comes to things like 'narcissists weaknesses' which people try to reach, it just relies on someones pleasure in harming a narcissist. like any other romanticization, it's based on generalizations that continue to harm the group it's subject to. not all narcissists are the same and to view any of our symptoms as 'cute' or 'romantic' is dismissing the fact that it's a disability that doesn't decide how you treat your partner/significant other.
sometimes people's support for narcissists can go from 'npd doesn't make you evil' to 'npd doesn't have any bad symptoms' which counts as this generalization that we are subject to. people with npd aren't a certain way even if it is a disorder that has morally objectible symptoms. this train of thought often makes people with npd uncomfortable as it dismisses the struggles of having npd and makes it seem like a good thing, while it should be treated neutrally.
