Theodore Grambell aka CatNap

Theodore "Theo" Grambell was an orphan test subject who would be turned into CatNap as part of the Bigger Bodies Initiative. His name was first mentioned in the Transcript Submission document in the Chapter 3 Interactable ARG.

Appearance

Theodore is a 7-year old young boy with light skin, brown hair, and brown eyes. He is seen wearing a black shirt, with the rest of his portrait found in Home Sweet Home in a picture who reveals his shirt is actually a blue-n-black checkered buttoned-short sleeved shirt, while rest of his body is rather normal for a child his age.

Personality

According to documents found in the Chapter 3 Interactable ARG, Theodore was a troubled orphan who attracted his counselors' concern. Since Joel Sinclair (Head Counselor at Playcare) initially assumed that Theo's friend wasn't real, it's implied that he did not have any other friends at Home Sweet Home. Based on his interactions with counselors and subsequent events, Theo is a master at stealth and covering his tracks, being able to steal a GrabPack with two Green Hands, escape Home Sweet Home at night without getting caught by Security, and break into Joel's office during his lunchtime.

Story

When Playtime Co. was still active, Theodore Grambell gained notoriety among the staff for his connection to an imaginary friend who seemed to encourage him to sabotage Playtime Co. In the Chapter 3 Interactable ARG, Theodore's drawing depicted him in purple, sitting on his bed while a skeletal arm emerged from underneath. This drawing strongly suggested that Theodore's "imaginary" companion was Experiment 1006; The Prototype.

Theodore's Drawing

One day, Theodore received instructions from 1006 to open a maintenance door in Playcare using a stolen GrabPack and a Green GrabPack Hand. Following The Prototype's guidance, Theodore attempted to open the door, potentially with 1006's intentions of allowing the orphans to escape. However, due to his young age and lack of understanding on how to operate the GrabPack, Theodore ended up getting electrocuted by the Green GrabPack Hand and needed immediate medical attention. Joel Sinclair (Head Counselor at Playcare) and Thomas Clarke (Playtime Co. Worker), upon hearing about the incident, concluded in a phone conversation that Theodore's imaginary friend was responsible. They specifically mentioned that the maintenance door required two people to operate. Thomas himself claimed to have seen Theodore's imaginary friend.

The Prototype brought Theodore to the Scientists in an attempt to save him and giving up his own freedom in the process, which led to the creation of CatNap. CatNap was created with a specialized goal in mind: to put the children at Home Sweet Home to sleep and prevent any orphans from escaping Playcare. Several candidates were considered to control CatNap, but Theodore Grambell ended up being chosen and became the guardian for Playcare.

The image below shows a paper from the Interactable ARG. Gerad Lockehart (Investigator) wrote about the attempt to escape from Theodore and his imaginary friend, likely being the Prototype. The Investigator explains how presumably the Prototype chose to help Theodore instead of escaping, which saved his life. What's interesting is that he says that the Influencer, Experiment 1006, cared about Theodore, which would make Theory #3 more likely.

Theories

Why did the Prototype kill CatNap at the end?
  • Theorie #1: At the end of Poppy Playtime: Chapter 3, the Player shoots CatNap with an overcharged Green GrabPack Hand, setting him on fire. Perhaps the Prototype wanted to put CatNap out of his misery and thus ended his life.
  • Theorie #2: The Prototype takes parts of other toys and makes them part of his own body. This can be confirmed through Mommy Long Legs at the end of Chapter 2: "You'll make me part of him!". That could also be the reason why the Prototype killed CatNap. Maybe the Prototype wasn't happy with him because he failed to kill the Player several times and decided to make CatNap part of his own body.
  • Theorie #3: Another theory could be that the Prototype is actually good. In the Chapter 3 Interactable ARG, it is confirmed that Theodore Grambell tried to escape Playcare but was seriously injured in the process. The Prototype was his only friend and decided to assist Theo, giving up his own freedom. Perhaps the Prototype has a profound affection for the orphans and wishes to help them. We learn in Chapter 3 that CatNap kills everyone and all toys that oppose the Prototype. If the Prototype cared for the orphans, he wouldn't want for them to get killed by CatNap and that's why he killed him.
